Capsfan18 34
The Mississauga Hounds fell short 6-4 against the league-leading Ottawa Lynx last night. While last night’s loss extends the Hounds’ losing streak to 4, Mississauga fans have something to hope for in rookie Linea Alba. The Maryland naitive made an immediate impact against the league’s best, notching assists on two of the Hounds’ four goals. Both assists came in the second period as the Hounds attempted to bounce back from a rough first period which saw the Lynx score 4 goals to the Hounds’ 1. Alba’s first career point came after center Dick Cheezy scooped up a shot that went wide and made sure it found the back of the net. Alba notched his second point off a deflection from right wing Adil Mahmood over the blocker of Ottawa netminder Joakim Bruden. Unfortunately their scoring ran dry after just one more goal, and the Lynx’s Ola Vikingstad put the final nail in the coffin with an empty net goal as the clock wound down to complete his hat trick. Speaking to the media about his VHLM experience so far, Alba said that he was “thrilled for a chance to compete at a professional level, but obviously disappointed by the result” Alba shared that he has meshed well in the Hounds locker room, and is looking forward to getting to know his teammates more as the season goes on. When asked if he was at all disappointed that his first professional assists came indirectly, Alba said that he was just happy to be contributing to the team by keeping pucks headed toward the net. Alba also pointed out that there was only time for a single practice with the team between his signing and last night’s game. He expects to produce more legitimate offense as he gets more comfortable with his linemates. Asked about life since moving to Mississauga, Alba said that he’s still settling in. “I’ve been spending a lot of time in the hotel I’ve been in while I look for a place to live. Some of the boys took me to a Raptors 905 game two nights ago. I hadn’t been to a G League game before, but the atmosphere was great. Gave me a sneak preview of what I can expect for our home games.” Alba also shared that he’s been approached by a few local businesses about some advertising opportunities, and that he is excited to start working on that. “In college, I wasn’t able to so much as sell a t-shirt with my face on it, so I’m excited to explore other business options now that I’m out from under the NCAA’s thumb,” said Alba. Alba was coy when asked about what projects he has in the works, but wants to assure Hounds fans that these ventures won’t distract from his work on the ice. He said “hockey is [his] number one priority.” Alba will get another chance at his first career goal when the Hounds travel to Houston tomorrow to take on the Bulls.
