Caboose30 152
Bennett vs Spaz VS The end of the season has come upon us and now it is time to reflect. For two future Titans though, it's time to stack the chips and see who came out on top. Jared Spaz @Spaz was drafted 8th overall by Helsinki while Bennett would be taken some time later at 17th overall in the S70 draft. This gap though, didnt stop Bennett from challenging Spaz at who was really the better player. Despite that game where the challenge was issued going to the Reapers, where Spaz recorded a Hat Trick to push the Reapers over San Diego. We even got to see the two battle in the WJC this season, with Spaz playing for Team Europe and Bennett on Team USA. But enough preview, the time for stats is upon us. Unfortunately for Spaz, the only two categories he did better than Bennett in were power play goals and hits and both were narrow victories on Spaz's end. Bennett on the other hand, outright dominated Spaz in almost every category that is tracked, more goals, more assists, more points, more Game winners, more shots, less PIMS, etc etc. Statistically speaking, Bennett quite outperformed the supposed next big star for Helsinki and made a large case as to why he is just overall better than Spaz. It doesn't even matter that the Reapers managed to beat the Marlins in their last meeting of the season. When we asked Bennett about it he said "Yea Spaz tried to rub that in my face, but I sent him a picture of me with my gold medal from the WJC and he shut up real fast." Both players are in the playoffs for their respective clubs. Bennett and the Marlins will face the Yukon Rush, where they are heavy favorites. Spaz and the Reapers will be facing Houston, and that series is anyone's game. What would make this oh so much more sweet for Bennett is if at the end of it all the Marlins go all the way and win the championship this season. While both players continue to smack talk each other. it is clear they will be a dynamic duo in years to come as they drive each other towards greatness. Yet some cant help but wonder if Bennett has some credibility when he was heard saying "I'm the real 8th overall pick between the two of us." Listed below is a compilation of the Bennett vs Spaz statistical war Category Bennett Spaz Goals 43 41 Assists 50 36 Points 93 77 +/- 91 71 Shots 328 253 PIMS 36 41 Hits 93 101 ShotBlocked 16 10 GWG 12 4 PPG 10 14 Now with the playoffs looming it will be interesting to see how this rivalry develops. With the possibility of Philadelphia and San Diego fighting each other in the playoffs being possible, it would be interesting to watch the two Helsinki stars go head to head. This fact is not lost on the two players and have recently had some back and forth banter about it, to include but not limited to golf courses, gold medals and random boasts of how they're going to win the cup this season. However, whatever the circumstances may be, should one of them lose they both agreed to cheer the other on from the sofa.
