Behold, a brief history of Swedish franchises in the VHL and VHLM.

Gothenburg Eagles

Now the Minnesota Storm, obviously. An affiliate of Riga (originally Stockholm), the Eagles were a pretty good VHLM franchise during the affiliation years, winning 3 Founder's Cups from S4 to S16. Then Dustin Funk randomly decided to move them and create the Oslo Screaming Seamen, for reasons. He was a visionary who knew Sweden was not a good place to be.

:mad:Stockholm Thunder

:stk:No, Stockholm Rams

Gothenburg's parent team was the Thunder, then the Rams, then had to have the commissioner step in and GM them a bit, made 1 final appearance, and moved to Riga in S8. Promptly made finals 3 straight times and won cup in S10. Dustin Funk was onto something here, I'm telling you.

:vas:Vasteras IK? Black Eagles? Iron Eagles? IK J20? :oldvas:

So many names, so many iterations. Vasteras famously won the cup in S1, then made the finals two more times ever. They made the finals as many times when they were Madrid and Stockholm. Does Madrid count as a Swedish team because they stole Stockholm's Thunder logo and were also Vasteras?

Oh and there was a junior team which was equally cursed and murdered in S36.

:sto:Stockholm Vikings

Lol. Bad ass logo, no cups. Got contracted. No, Calgary got contracted but then the league went wait lol, we can't contract Calgary when the undead corpse of Vasteras is still walking around the league.

:mal:Malmo Nighthawks

Good luck boys. Next time you wonder why a perfectly good team on paper can't get more than 20 shots a game, remember Malmo is from Sweden.

I legitimately had no clue that the Stockholm Rams also used to be the Stockholm Thunder, with the same logo as Madrid too lol.  And if Malmo is the closest thing we'll get to a Vasteras return I'm happy with it.  As long as they stick around :P

(also I have a currently unfinished article about IK J20, one of the most interesting/odd teams on this list)
