Recruitment/retention theme week submission

Well it's that time a year again, theme week. I've come to actually dread this week every season as it limits my creativity to a specific subject that sometimes I lack the passion to really  to able to come up with a quality 500+ word Media spot. Another point that pisses me off about these theme weeks is that as long as you have a job here you don't have do the theme at all, it's just auto given to ya. So every year for them they get a free doubles week. Ain't that nice? The BoG comes up with a theme every year that limits every members' creativity to a certain theme but they don't have to do it themselves because their just too good for that. They already represent many of the leagues Hall of Fame members and current VHL all stars and for good reason, they got it pretty easy compared to the member base in my opinion. The members have to submit content for the forums every week and it sometimes takes hours to accomplish a quality point task to get your full 12tpe a week. Then you got admins from other sim leagues that get their full 12 tpe every week coasting without posting much content wise on the VHL.

 

All these recruitment efforts are nice and all but it's all for nothing if the VHL can't retain any of them and I think a major factor in retaining some of these members is an increase in parity in the VHL and a decrease in free tpe handouts like the "free doubles week" I mentioned above for the VHL's elite. It's all cool if you guys want to give out tpe for specific jobs but I feel like anything over 2 tpe a week for a job here is just ridiculous. Okay, at least the VSN writters should get the full pop at least since they're actually creating content.  Also why we giving out free tpe for other sim site's admins? That's absurd, jobs you do in other sim sites, affiliated or not shouldn't really matter here in the VHL. What you do here in the VHL should matter, that's it. You have many members here crying for ice time and then you have admins from other sites getting free tpe and not really adding any content to the site and taking up prime time roster space which is just bull shit. I get it though the BoG wants to help their buddies out to make nice. 

 

Another good move when it comes to recruitment/retention is to keep little childish squabbles like what we seen happen with that basketball league between admins under wraps and not pinned as an announcement. It's fucken embarassing that the first thing new members see as they come onto our forums is a childish squabble making us look like a bunch of immature 15 year olds running a sim league in high school. Maybe having affiliates in the first place is a problem.

 

I know i'll be getting some flack for this week's media spot but I don't really care it is what it is and this is my frustrating opinion after all. Before every gets all up in arms and gang up on me here on the forums I must inform you that I won't be answering any replies here on the forums on this subject but feel free to blast me through private message if you want to discuss my stance or just bitch me out.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. While I don't necessarily agree with everything you're saying. I agree that people that earn enough to get a free bonus should have to do something to earn that bonus during theme week. Take this week for example, it would be nice to see reports from the recruitment team about how efforts are going. Like what the cost of acquisition is and what the retention rate is and how many new members signed up and how many people went inactive. Or even to just hear the recruitment team's thoughts or lessons learned or anything. For other jobs, it would be nice to see a list of what improvements to the portal are being worked on. It would be nice to hear a "state of the union" from the commissioner(s). I don't even think those jobs auto earn the bonus, but still it would be nice to hear from them.

It’s not so much earning enough, it’s having pay that replaces a PT. Making theme week still require a PT for those players would mean that either the job gets done for 0 pay or theme week bonuses are ignored. It’s honestly not even as many people as you’d think. Basically just simmer, recruitment, and full dev which I think is just Will.
