Greg_Di 1,028
Another year and another playoff appearance for Greg Eagles. Since he was drafted into the VHL in S67, Eagles has been fortunate enough to make the playoffs with his team every single season. In S67, when he was the backup, the Wolves went on to win the cup and gave Eagles his first taste of playoff hockey. He ended up playing one game during those playoffs, only for 23 minutes in a relief role and let in 2 goals on 23 shots. The next 3 seasons as starter the Wolves also made the playoffs but it was a 3 season nightmare as they were eliminated all 3 times by the Seattle Bears. 2 of those series in the first round and in S69 they were eliminated in the semi-finals. “ I just don’t know what it was with Seattle, they always had our number in the playoffs and that will always be one of my regrets from playing with the Wolves is that we didn’t make the finals. We should have in S69 but things just didn’t go our way” S70 playoffs also marked Greg’s worst playoff performance as he went 1-3 with a .856 save percentage and 3.75 GAA. This lead to Eagles not even playing in the final game. “ That series was embarrassing, I just couldn’t get anything going. Everything was going in and it just became super frustrating. We had no answer for them” This season the playoffs will be a redemption for Eagles. He is now in the European conference with Riga and will not have to face Seattle unless they both make the finals. This will also give Eagles a chance to bounce back from last years horrible playoffs and show the league that he can lead a team to the promised land “ I have been working hard this season and this is my time to prove myself “ Eagles said “ I didn’t have the best of seasons if you compare last season to this season BUT I am hoping to have the best playoff performance of my career” With Riga sporting some of the best defense in the league, this should be an easy feat for Eagles but questions were raised in the last couple of games where Riga went 2-4 and goaltending and defense was sub-par. “ If we want to win it all this year then I have to be solid and the defense has to be solid. We have to help out our offense and keep the lead for them “Eagles continued “ were all fired up and were all excited to get this thing going” Riga will be hoping that this seasons new additions in Eagles, Burn and Marleau can lead Riga to the finals and help Riga lift a cup. So far all 3 have been mediocre but they may be saving all their energy for the playoffs. It will be a long road but all of the team is up for it. Anything but a finals appearance will be a disappointment for Eagles and the Reign.
