Alex Letang - First VHLM Season Review

Alex Letang seemingly stumbled upon the VHL the week before the S71 VHLM Expansion Draft after he decided to play in a professional league extremely late. He had no clue that he would get scooped up in the 3rd round of the draft, 26th overall, to the esteemed Las Vegas Aces, or that he'd finish the season playing over 27 minutes a game as the Aces looked to make a deep playoff run. All he needed was a shot, and he delivered on that opportunity given to him by @Poptart, and then rose to the moments that new GM @Proto offered him as well.

After an impressive season as a key member of the Aces' top 4 D-men, Letang finished off the regular season with 10 goals and 46 assists in 72 games, along with a +42 rating. Letang wasn't the most physical defender, but finished the season with 39 hits. Surprisingly, he grew into a strong two-way game in the Aces after being a predominantly offensive defenseman in the major junior leagues, posting 71 blocked shots against the 77 shots on goal he recorded.

Looking ahead, Letang projects to be a low first round pick, or a high second round pick in the S72 VHL draft. At his current level of conditioning, Letang appears to be a prospect that a team can stash in the minors for another season. Letang is sure to be one of the top defensemen in the VHLM if he stays down, but is sure to be a sneakily good 2nd/3rd pair defenseman if he is called up. Anticipate a scouting report for Letang to be released in the near future!
