Think the fires of the Season 33 Draft have cooled down five seasons later? If the most recent New York v. Seattle game is any indication, Seattle winger Karsten Olsen still harbors some resentment towards the man taken ahead of him in the draft, Wesley Kellinger.

With the New York Americans up 4-2 in the third period, the newly-signed Kellinger decided to rub his overall success in Olsen’s face. Kellinger followed Olsen around the ice for entire shift, making crying motions with his gloves and spouting curses related to Olsen’s recent public frustrations with his statistics. After trying to ignore him for much of the shift, Olsen finally snapped after Kellinger said, “Your Mom was an even bigger Bear last night.”

The box score only showed the eventual results of the fight, saying:

Karsten Olsen beats up Wesley Kellinger at 4:23 of 3rd period

Wesley Kellinger ejected from game at 4:23 of 3rd period

However, the true fight was much, much worse. After the game, Kellinger needed 15 stitches following repeated blows to the head. And even worse for the Americans? The referee saw Kellinger’s taunts throughout the shift, and he was the one thrown out of the game for instigating a fight.

The Americans may have won 5-3, but Olsen feels that there is now a weight off his shoulders. “He’s been messing with me since the day he was taken number one,” Olsen said. “But let’s see if he decides to run his mouth off again the next time the Americans come around.”
