New York Americans Jump Out Of The Gate

 

 

The Big Apple is currently being blessed with some of the best hockey the city has seen since the Rangers 1994 championship season. The New York Rangers currently have a 3-1 series lead on the Montreal Canadiens in the NHL's conference finals, while the New York Americans have started with a bang to their season, winning seventeen of nineteen games to begin Season Thirty-Eight. Today we’ll look at the Americans roster and the hot start the players are having during those first nineteen games.

 

Odin Tordahl

 

 

The main man is at it once again in New York this season. After leading the league in both goals and points last season for the Americans, Tordahl is picking up right where he left off. The Norwegian forward currently leads the league in goals(19) and points(39). Tordahl has been a great forward in the league since he broke in with the Legion five seasons ago, but Tordahl has really taken his game to the next level since coming to the club from Davos two seasons ago. Americans fans are hoping that Tordahl can continue on his torrid pace and add another Continental Cup to his already illustrious VHL career. 

 

 

Xin Xie Xiao

 

 

After a slightly down sophomore season it looks as though Xiao has found his footing again this season. Xiao, like Tordahl has been playing lights out this season for the Americans, sitting second on the Americans and in the league in points (32). Xiao has found chemistry on the team’s first line alongside fellow winger Tordahl and sophomore center Tom Slaughter, dominating opposing teams offensively as well as physically. Playing alongside a superstar like Tordahl has clearly rubbed off on the young winger, so hopefully the two can continue this chemistry for the Americans down the stretch run and into the playoffs.

 

Wesley Kellinger

 

 

 

One of the two big off-season acquisitions for General Manager Chris Miller, Kellinger is showing he was worth the money the team threw at him during the first few hours of free agency. Kellinger was coming off a average season for the Meute last season but has seemed to find his groove again early on in New York. Playing as the team’s second line center Kellinger has fired out of the gate offensively with eleven goals and fourteen assists in nineteen games. Kellinger is quickly becoming a fan favorite in New York for his new style of play this season, Kellinger has picked up three fighting majors on the season already, while also being tossed out of a few games as well early on. Kellinger has fit in with the Americans beautifully early on this season, management and fans alike will hope the match made in heaven will continue all season long.

 

Tom Slaughter

 

 

The second year center is having another solid start to a VHL season. Slaughter has put up twenty-three points this season, with fifteen of those points coming as assists for the young play-maker. Slaughter made the jump right after his draft year to the VHL and hasn't missed a beat up to this point in his career. Slaughter will be looked upon to feed the snipers on the first line for the Americans to continue on their hot start.
