Name: Damon Tyrael
Position: Right Wing
Current Team: None
Number: 91
Age: 18
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 225 Lbs.
Born: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

Childhood

Tyrael was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to Ken and Sharol Tyrael. Damon's father Ken works in Alberta's oil industry as a consultant and his mother Sharol is a nurse. Damon grew up in a middle class family and experienced many sports as a child, something his father insisted upon. By the age of ten hockey had taken over Damon's life and it was his obsession.

By the time Tyrael was set to enter the Western Hockey League (WHL) entry draft he was borderline on weather he would make it or not and as the draft came and went it was clear he didn't make the grade and he went undrafted. Damon's next move was to try and get himself onto an Alberta Junior Hockey League team. Damon settled on the Old Grizzlys as his new team and played there until he was seventeen years old.

Western Hockey League

Damon's Western Hockey League career started as many other young prospects, on the forth line trying to earn his playing time. While it was not a profound impact he made on the score sheets, Damon did serve to eat up minutes as an insurance policy for the Rebels star players. The seventeen year old Tyrael was a big kid that put the fear into opposing players when he was on the ice. Only scoring seven goals and eleven assists in his first season was nothing to write home about but with his goal of playing in the Western Hockey League realized and his spot on the team secure it was a very happy time in the Tyrael household.

Damon had a great start to his second season, earning a spot in the Rebels top six due to some injuries. It was an unexpected offensive punch that was added to the Rebels top six as Tyrael managed to put up seventeen goals and twenty five assists in the first half of the season before injured players started returning. Damon thought with his production from the second line there was no way he'd be designated back down to the bottom six for the Rebels but that's exactly what happened. Being unhappy being back in the tough guy role Tyrael took many penalties and even managed to get himself suspended close to the end of the season for two handing an opponent across the back of the legs. Damon has always played with passion which has led to discipline problems throughout his junior career.

Current

After being tagged as a problem by scouts Tyrael was overlooked completely in the National Hockey League draft. While pondering his next move Tyrael was contacted by some ex-team mates about joining the Victory Hockey League. Not ready to give up on his dream of a hockey career quite yet, he registered for the Victory Hockey League Minor draft. Tyrael is thrilled at the prospect of playing hockey again and has started practicing like crazy in preparation for the upcoming draft. As it stands right now it looks as though Tyrael will have to wait on a team to take a flyer on him in waivers so he can show off his talent before the draft rolls around. It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out for the young Damon Tyrael.

Player Review

Pros

Skating: Tyrael was once one of the best skaters in the Western Hockey League. It remains to be seen weather or not he can be one of the best in the VHLM or not yet but he has the scouts talking with his early workouts in the league thus far. With Tyrael's size and his long stride it's no wonder he can cover the ice at such great speeds.

Leadership: Leading by example is what Tyrael is all about. The first one in the gym and last to leave, the first one to drop the gloves to defend a teammate and the guy that's there to get the team fired up when they need it. This is the kind of guy you want in your locker room.

Work Ethic: Sleep, practice, gym, sleep, practice, gym is all this guy ever does. Tyrael wants to take home trophies and break records. The only way he knows how, to just plain outwork his competition. At the rate this kid is improving he'll be a starter in the pro's very soon. It's Tyrael's lead by example attitude that has bee ingrained in the young man since childhood that keep him working harder than anyone else on any team he has ever played for.

Cons

Discipline: Tyrael has always had a temper and it has got the best of him on many occasions. While this is an area of the youngster's game that is improving, he still has the tendency to fly off the handle when protecting team mates. Nobody will forget Tyrael "ACCIDENTALLY" punching a linesman in his Western Hockey League days.

Puck Movement: The kid has given up his fair share of goals to poor puck movement decisions, it can always be improved on but as of right now it is a major factor in his ability to play at a higher level. Look for his VHLM coach to be pushing him hard for some improvement in his own zone before hitting the Victory Hockey League.

Fighting: You'd think that a guy with his temper would be a great fighter but the fact is he's not. While he is young and may develop the skill in the future, as of right now he's still a kid in a man's world. It remains to be seen if Tyrael will even attempt to fight in his VHL career or if he'll go the scoring role and stay out of the fight game in his new home.

Overview: 3/3 - It's good to have you back Bushito. A nice introduction into the life of Damon Tyrael. Always like to see the underdog succeed, so hopefully Tyrael has a successful career here. I liked that you added the "favorites" section at the end. I thought it was a nice touch.

Grammar: 2/2 - A good amount of mistakes, but just short enough of a list to not warrant a deduction.

Pros: 1.75/2 - Over 200 words. Thought the leadership pro was a little weak. More detail needed.

Cons: 2/2 - Just over 200 words. Each pro was solid.

Overall: 9.75/10

Overview: 3/3 - I don't get why Tyrael didn't make it to the NHL; the Flyers love players who rack up the penalty minutes! I also liked your favorites section at the end, and thought the article was a smooth enjoyable read.
