Tales of the Founder's Cup: Wild Crossing

SASKATOON - After finally locating Lucas Brandt, the Saskatoon Wild's journey home with the Founder's Cup could resume. After a thorough head count, and Adam Frence procuring more Mojitos, the team bus finally rolled out of Mexico City on the long journey north. There weren't exactly many opportunities for delays, especially with several players, such as Brandt and Timothy Brown, needing to be ready to travel to their new VHL clubs. Others, like Dan Baillie Jr and Grekkark Gyrfalcon, would be hearing their names called at the upcoming VHL Entry Draft. Adam Frence and Kazimir Komarov, however, were enjoying the final moments of their hockey careers, having announced their retirements. The primary goal of this trip was simply to revel in the company of their teammates one last time before heading their separate ways.

Looking to avoid a delay at the Mexican border into the United States, Assistant General Manager Thomas Landry and captain Keith Krestanovich began asking players to have their passports ready. Seeing as the Founder's Cup was filled with Mojitos, it turned out to be a more difficult task than anticipated. Some players, like Alec Volchenkov and Tyler Walker, were ready to go, just as they always were on the ice. Bobby Wyman's passport wound up in his skates, while Frence's ID was found at the bottom of the Founder's Cup, which he had finished off to prevent attempting to take alcohol over the border.

Shockingly, the Wild made it across the border without incident, and their long journey home continued into the United States. However, many, many miles remained on their journey… plenty of time for them to get into trouble was left.
