VHLM NA Standing Update

Thus far in Season 38, the VHLM has seen some of the most exciting hockey of all-time; as far as VHLM goes. At the beginning of the season, we did a quick prediction article where we outlined how we thought the VHLM standings would play out this season. Today, as we near the end of Season 38, we will take a look at the current standings and compare them with our early predictions.

Yukon Rush - Current: 1st - Projected: 1st

Our prediction for the Yukon Rush holding onto the 1st place spot in North America (and the league) has panned out so far. With 29 points above Brampton, the second place team, the Rush will almost certainly be able to capture the conference title. After making some line changes and picking up some new players on waivers, notably James Faraday, the Rush have been on a hot streak and show no signs of weakening.

Brampton Blades - Current: 2nd - Projected: 2nd

Yet again, our early projection has held true. Actually, Brampton just squeezed into the 2nd place position within the last couple of days. At one point, we thought this prediction would be way off. Brampton largely under-performed for much of the season, and has just recently started to pull up their socks. Although they have stars such as Tyson Stokes, Sam Keeler, and Tyrone Williams, the Blades just haven't been able to connect as a team and produce results.

Ottawa Lynx - Current: 3rd - Projected: 3rd

The streak is still holding up! With 62 points, just one behind the Blades, Ottawa holds the third place position in VHLM North America. The Lynx had a bit of a shaky start to the season, but quickly developed as a team and they are now a force to be reckoned with. The recent acquisition of veteran VHLM goalie Jimmity Krickett has also gave the Lynx a solid asset between the pipes. With rising stars such as Mike McGratten and Andrew Erikson, as well as the experienced Chris Raymond, the Lynx could very well stage an upset come playoff time.

Saskatoon Wild - Current: 4th - Projected: 4th

Still going! Just a meager seven points behind Ottawa, Saskatoon currently sits at 4th place in the North American Conference. The Wild have struggled to get dedicated players and, as a result, are not having the season that their management hoped to be having. Although playoffs is not yet out of the picture for the Wild, it's looking unlikely at this point. They simply don't have the firepower to oust the Lynx or the Blades.

Minot Gladiators - Current: 5th - Projected: 5th

Obviously, by process of elimination, we know that all my predictions have came true up to this point in the season! The Gladiators are in last place, separated from the Wild by just 4 points. After losing Chris Raymond near the beginning of the season, I predicted the Gladiators to be in last because I assumed they would sell off the rest of their assets. While they haven't done that yet, they still end up in last due to a lack of dedicated players.

This season has been really interesting, especially in North America. If you take the Rush out of the equation, all the North American teams are within 12 points of each other. That's a pretty small gap compared to last season, and makes for an exciting season. Clearly it's not the end of the season yet so these rankings could change at any time, but, I think they will hold true.
