IamMOOSE 361
It was June 9th when Moose joined the VHL on a whim and grew to love the community and creativity of sim league. He was a top earner, he wrote articles, proposed changes, and became a lockeroom guy. His numbers for player Kevin King were a point of frustration but after going near the top of the second round in the VHL Draft, he was all set to end his VHLM career strong and begin his VHL career on a high note. He even joined the EFL to help friend and former VHLM GM Spartan as a member of the Trenton Generals of the EFCA on both offense and defense. He would start off slow in the EFL, with his QB Jensen Novak struggling before Trenton caught fire in the final weeks, leading them all the way to the Championship game. Unfortunately, much like his VHL player in Kevin King, they were defeated in the title fight. Moose was proud of the effort and happy with the EFL success and even his end to the VHLM season, along with getting a crack at an AGM spot with the San Diego Marlins. Something has changed since then. San Diego’s rebuild year, struggles to acquire talent, his family emergency, job outside of the league have all begun to ware on Moose. With the current family health emergency, it’s another setback. When it comes to King it’s another setback on what feels like just a career grind. He sits at 11 points in 23 games, second worst on the team. 18 points separates him from the top of the rookie scoring race, making his rookie of the year aspiration a cruel joke like his performance as a player. His first full season as the AGM for the San Diego Marlins is what their record shows, a team without a team. With so few players in the lineup, it’s a struggle on and off the ice to get anything going. It’s a measure to the difficulty of being a front office presence in the VHLM and doesn’t seem to be going Moose’s way this season. And then it comes back to King’s performance on the ice. “I’m embarrassed by it. To be one of the worst rookies in the league statistically. You play your game and play your game but obviously something isn’t working here. It’s embarrassing, I’m ashamed.” - Kevin King comments on play through first 20 games this season. It rounds us back to the initial point of this piece; Moose has lost his passion for sim leaguing. Where he was once, pushing to get friends and family to join him now sees him struggle to get content ready for the weekly updates. Where he was a voice in every lockeroom, is now silent and absent. When asked about his future Moose had this to say: “I try and have tried to give 100% effort to the VHL and even the EFL as it’s progressed. In regard to King I just don’t know. You get told you’ll get there, he’ll break out, he’ll be a good player in the majors. It’s been 2½ seasons of [hearing] that and what do we have. I cap weekly, I participate, I earn as much uncapped as I can. What else can I do? Eventually you just start to realize the STHS isn’t going to go your way. It never really has since I joined.” When asked about whether or not he’d considered walking away from the league Moose said it wasn’t an intention as of now. If anything were to happen first, it would be regressing to a more relaxed update, not capping consistently. As of now he’ll continue to cap and try to see what can be done to turn things around. Plate 386
Review Hey buddy. If you need to take a small break then that's totally fine. Burning yourself out and killing your player isn't worth the 12 or so TPE that you'll miss out by taking a break for a week. At the end of the day - this is a league for fun. If you aren't having fun then obviously something isn't working. With that being said, it sounds like you have a lot going on in your life right now. This is a place for you to come and relax. It's like one big family that supports one another. We all understand that things can wear us down, but at the end of the day we're still people. TPE is just a number. Simon T doesn't care about our feelings. You gotta brunt the force and keep your head up. You can do this. I did really like the insight that the article gave. It was formatted nicely. Easy to read and it made a lot of sense. I hope that whatever you're going through, you beat. And moreover continue adding your valuable touch to the league. We thrive when members like you exists. It's because of the time you volunteer to put in that we succeed and have four expansion team seasons. 10/10 if you need to talk I'm here bro.
