ThePerfectNut 563
I could make a 1k media spot about this stud, but I will try to keep it short and brief. Update: I did 800 words lmao @SlapshotDragon ------------------------------------------------------- After winning the Founder's cup and other awards in season 69 (nice) of the VHLM, Calgary star goaltender Jacques Lafontaine made a huge splash in the VHL so far. How did this happen? VHLM Lafontaine VHLM campaign was one of the best in VHLM history possibly by putting up insane stats that do not look real. He had 68 Ws and only 4 Ls that season! Having a .900% save percentage and a 1.83 GA while facing over 1k shots. He could have had more than 5 SO, but who cares. He leads the SSK to the Founder's Cup and got drafted 4th overall in the S70 VHL draft. Pretty high for a goalie, but he displayed plenty of star potential in him and I'm sure Calgary GM is extremely happy to have called his name on that day. WC During the World Cup, he was playing for a rather weaker USA team. The team went 3-5-2 and got eliminated in their first elimination game. Lafontaine stats were still impressive by putting up a .913% save percentage and a 2.88 GAA while facing 332 shots through 10 games (Basically 33 shot a game lol). During the elimination game, he was not to blame because he had a .926% save percentage and only allowed 2 goals. You can't ask your goalie more than that on the international stage. Now to the VHL. (I will keep it short and sweet) S70: .916% and a 2.45 GAA. with a record of 6-1-1. He was the backup goalie in his first season and he already showed why he should be a starter on the team for the upcoming season. He did not play enough games to be considered for the ROTY, but I'm sure he would have had that easily if he had played more games. S71: .910% and a 2.64 with a record of 40-22-2 and facing near 2k shots. His sophomore year, you think his stats dipped a tad bit? Not at all! He did that through 64 games instead of 8! That's amazing! I'm guessing he could have not been qualified as the most improved player because goalies winning that is pretty much unheard of. I guess people will say he did not really improve in a sense, but I do believe jumping from 8 games to 64 games and posting those elite stats in the VHL should be awarded with SOMETHING. S72: .924% and a 2.31 with a record of 45-13-6 and facing near 2k shots again. His best season yet. He leads the Calgary Wranglers to a Victory cup that season. I'm going to say it again. His stats improved again, but when he is posting such elite stats in the VHL. We can't see him as someone who improves I guess. I'm surprised that he did not win the best goalie award, but I do not know who won it. Whoever did, damn was your stats really that better? A .924% save percentage and a 2.45 while leading his team to the victory cup and I'm pretty sure he was top 8 in shots against sounds pretty hard to beat. Anyway, he won the Greg Clegane Trophy so it was enough of compassion for him. S73: .917% and a 2.46 with a record of 37-21-6 and facing near 2k shots AGAIN. A set back year? Lol that's funny when he's posting such stats at the VHL level. Now I could understand why he would not win the best goalie award, but he still dominated regardless and won the Greg Clegane Trophy again. Nothing much else to say, those are some legendary stats in his first 3 seasons in this age that some might say it's a scoring age. There were a lot of competitive teams too. Current season S74: .923% and a 2.25 GAA with a record of 14-9 and already facking near 1k shots through 23 games only. He is on pace on having another amazing VHL season. 4 times in a row and he is looking like the best goalie right now. He should face well over 2k shots this year, a career-high for SO, and possibly another year of winning the Greg Clegane Trophy yet again. Who was the last goalie to win it 3 times in a row in only 3 seasons as a starter? He's probably one of the only ones ever. His team might not win the victory cup and that makes his stats look even better to look at. If he continues at this pace and no other goalies surpass him. Why could he not finally win the best VHL goalie award? Would be extremely well deserved at this point. Conclusion A bold article? Yes Do I think he deserves even more recognition? Absolutely! Will he be a HOF? He might spend his entire career with Calgary and I think we might not have seen the best that he can do yet. I really believe he will become one for sure. Will he become a champion? It's to be determined. Will he go down in VHL recent history for great goalies? He should be one of them. Ladies and gentlemen. We have the new WALL of the VHL.
