S75 VHL Mock Draft

Another season has nearly come and gone! While most teams are looking towards the playoffs, a select few are looking to the future and their next era of players. The draft is the most important night of the season for some teams. The right selection can be the difference in escaping the league’s basement or another season of more of the same. As it stands right now, the bottom five teams are pretty much a lock to be in the lottery. That sixth and final spot is up for grabs, with six teams ranging from 66 points (Davos currently holding the spot) to 70 points (Helsinki, who is all the way up at sixth overall). In last currently, we have LA with 51 points. Last year they were in the bottom of the league and selected fifth overall. Second last is London, sitting in the same spot they held last year. Warsaw again returns to the lottery in year number two for them, and New York is just a point behind them as the American’s begin their rebuild period. Chicago and Davos round out the final two spots in the lottery. In today’s article, we’ll look at the potential selections these teams could make on draft night, depending on their team needs!

This year’s draft isn’t as deep as previous years. We’ll only see about four or five capped players on draft night, and they won’t be capped by much. As of writing this, no players are currently at 250 TPE. That being said, there is some decent depth to this draft and teams will get some nice prospects throughout rounds one and two.

1st Overall- Los Angeles Stars

At first overall, the Stars really only have one choice here. They have two S73 defencemen in Gumballs and Keef. They have a S74 D in Green. They also have their goalie of the future in Doug Dimmadome. So their only move is to grab a forward, and luckily for them, the best player in this draft is centerman Taro Tsujimoto of the Mississauga Hounds. Tsujimoto has been a force this year, scoring 43 goals and 102 points. He’s done a great job scoring, but he looks like he’ll be more of a playmaker. He’s currently tied for the league lead in assists with 59.

2nd Overall- London United

The United are another team that have a pretty easy choice on draft night. They have a good group of young forwards. They don’t have a high TPE star, but they have a young core who is growing together. They have two defencemen though, and only one is active. So at 2nd overall, they’ll grab a defender and I believe it will be Muffbeav. He’s been an offensive defenceman for Yukon, scoring just under a point per game. This will give London a great young player to play with S72 player James Rose.

3rd Overall- Warsaw Predators

Warsaw had the 1st overall pick last year, and took Aloe Dear who had a fantastic season for them. I believe Warsaw will look to go back to the forward pool in this draft. They have three solid defencemen already. Their best player is Dredge, who will go into his final season next year and will be hit hard with depreciation after this year. Pistil Stamen is having a good year in Yukon, he’s got 65 points in 60 games. He’s a player who likes to throw his body around, and looks to be a guy who not only scores, but uses his physical game to disrupt other players too.

4th Overall- New York Americans

The Americans are a team who find themselves back in the lottery, after a few seasons of moderate success. Who they’ll select is a bit of an enigma. They don’t have a very young group of forwards, but the two high end forwards in this draft are gone. They could go with left wing Joe Kelly, who only scored 11 points in 60 games this year. He does project to be a very good player at the next level though. Last year, they took defenceman Markus Schauer in the first round, and do have S71 Hugh Jass (who is having a career year with 79 points so far) although there are rumours that he could be moved to a contender for futures. I ultimately think they’ll go D here, and pick the man known simply as L. L is one of the top earners in this draft, coming in at number two on the leaderboard. He’d be a great replacement for Jass.

5th Overall- Chicago Phoenix

Chicago’s pick here is pretty simple, they need D. They have four right now, but only one is active. They’ll take Jolly Green Giant, who is having a great year in Ottawa. He’s got 55 points, 241 hits (2nd in the league) and 146 shots blocked (3rd in the league). He should be able to hit the cap by next season’s start, as he’s just over 200 at the time of writing this article.

6th Overall- HC Davos

Davos might not be in this spot come draft night, as six teams are within the range of Davos. Only four points separate these teams. But for now, it’s Davos. Davos is in a good situation, they have some really good forwards, and one of the leagues TPE defenders in Roque Davis. I think they’ll go BPA here and take Joe Kelly. Kelly had an odd year in the VHLM, only scoring 11 points. He’ll do well to grow with the team and become the high end player he’s forecasted to be, playing in a no pressure situation.

And that does it for this year’s lottery mock draft. As I said, not a ton of high end talent this season, but some decent depth beyond the players I listed here. It’s a good year to need a goalie, as there will be four goalies who top 200 TPE by the draft, all created by reputable updating members.

Great job on getting detailed info on the player. I recommend making the player name/draft overall bold so the player stands out more. Other than that great job 9/10
