So the WJC was honestly my first true experience actually managing a team. Sure I'm the AGM of Las Vegas, but what the WJC is different as instead of following the advice of your GM, you are in charge of your teams. Meaning that it's your responsibility to properly fill and send in your lines, determine your roster and get players engaged. And I wanna talk about that for a bit. I do like sharing my experiences regarding this aspect since it kinda gives perspective on how things are like from someone who's actively trying to learn how to become a GM. Kinda a good way to show others a little bit of insight if they too are looking to get a job as a GM in the future. Anyways here's another 500+ word .com article.

So as you may have guessed, I was the GM of Team World in this season's WJC. A position I really wanted since I enjoyed my time as a player of Team World. So finding out that I got the position I wanted was honestly really exciting for me. Anyways, now that I was the GM, it was time to select my roster. The thing with being World's and Asia's GM, is that your roster is highly dependent on the other rosters. You gotta wait for the other teams to finish up before you can finalize your roster, and during that time, your only choice was to fill up spots using, in my case, World born players. Once my true final roster, including Europe's and US's leftovers, were complete, I had a good view of my team. I was actually pretty confident. Sure we don't have as much forward depth compared to other teams, but what I really liked was my defense and goaltending, as that honestly was one of the  bigger spotlights on this team.

When I was filling up my lines, I already had an idea as to what I was going to do. I decided to double shift my first line and my two defensive pairings, that way I could slightly change up the strategies between those two lines. I also took slight inspiration from Vegas's lines. Mostly because I needed a reference to what I can do with the strategies. I'm sure not every person who gets a WJC job has access to lines from the VHLM and VHL. So best option is to ask people who are willing to help. To me that was @Zetterberg since he was a previous GM for world. Although I didn't ask him too much regarding lines, I was glad that I had him around to help me with things.

Anyways, I really didn't expect us to be super good, just around the middle of the standings in terms of round robin. Then we went 6-0 in the first 6 games. I was surprised. We finished the round robins with a 6-1-1 record and heading into the medal rounds, and I was confident that we could go all the way. During that time, I barely changed the lines at all. Only giving a player or two more ice time. Though when the medal rounds came, I switched up the strats a bit. Unfortunately we lost out on Gold but it was a  very close match .All in all, I'm glad I was able to help bring World to a silver medal. A huge accomplishment considering how little accolades World has. Hopefully in time, World can get itself a Gold medal one day.
