Greg_Di 1,028
The world cup is now over and this puts the final stamp on Greg Eagle's career. Having retired earlier in the season, Greg was called up for the final time to represent Team World. Thing's didn't get off to a great start for Team World in the round robin, narrowly losing games they should have won and the team starting slow out of the gate. For Greg, his final mediocre season carried on into the world cup as he did not play to the best of his abilities. He had some great games where he carried the team but in other games it looked like he was completely out of it. It may have been the fatigue from a grueling VHL season or it may have been that he was ready to hang up the glove and blocker. No matter what it was, Team World still put up a respectable 4-5 record which pushed them into the playoffs. Eagles had decent stats going 4-5-1 with a .911 save percentage which was 3rd best in the tournament and a 3.08 GAA which was 4th in the tournament " You know, with all the media talk saying I gave up, I think that was just bullsh*t " Greg said " I think I played well, I put up good numbers and came in trying to give my team the win every night. In a tournament with the best of the best, of course you are going to win some and lose some...but for people saying I didn't put in the effort just really gets on my nerves" With all the speculation around him, Greg Eagles entered the playoff game vs Team Nordic with something to prove. This was a game Team world entered knowing that they could win to advance to the medal rounds. Greg Eagles put on a show as he made 38 saves out of 40 shots, silencing those who thought he wasn't giving it his all. This effort was not enough though as Team World lost in overtime 2-1. This was not the way Greg wanted to go out without getting a medal but the final game proved that he still had gas left in the tank and that all the media report were all fake news. " We did our best and unfortunately things did not go our way tonight. I am proud of our team though and I wish everyone all the best of luck in the future" Greg said " Tonight was my final ever hockey game and I played to the best of my abilities. I believe I played really well and Team Nordic just got that lucky bounce. I retire with my head held high though as I know in my final game I showed everyone that my abilities have not faltered and that I can still play at the top of my game" Greg will now focus his attention on training and getting his son, Tom , ready for the VHLM season. It is rumored Greg will be his personal coach, so this may not be the last we hear of Greg Eagles.
