Regular Season Power Rankings (S20-29)

Recommended Posts

I am lazy, I did the first 10 seasons and got a lot of information, from here on out we will add 10 more season until we are caught up to see which team stands out in the regular season! So without further adieu, here are the rankings from the VHL's 20 to 29 seasons or the 20's as it is called. As usual with standings, you get 2 points for a win, 1 point for OT/SO Loss and I gave you an extra point every time you made the playoffs plus an extra point every time you won the Victory Cup as the leagues Regular Season Winner. You lost a point every time you missed the playoffs though.

1 - HC Davos Dynamo

720 GP - 426 W - 246 L - 48 OT/SO L - 909 P - 2,391 GF - 2,018 GA - 8 Playoffs - 2 Playoff Misses - 3 Victory Cup Wins

HC Davos Dynamo was the top team in the 20's with a record of 426-246-48 in 720 games played. They scored 2,391 goals and allowed 2,018 goals for an average of 3.32 goals for and 2.80 goals against per game. Davos made the playoffs the most in this 10 season stretch with 8 appearances and missed the playoffs only twice. That was also the lowest in the VHL during this time span. The Dynamo fans were used a lot of winning since the Dynamo also won 3 Victory Cups during this time span which was 2nd in the league.

2 - Toronto Legion

720 GP - 423 W - 251 L - 46 OT/SO L - 900 P - 2,236 GF - 1,928 GA - 7 Playoffs - 3 Playoff Misses - 4 Victory Cup Wins

Toronto was the 2nd best team in the 20's with a record of 423-251-46 in 720 games. Toronto scored 2,236 goals and allowed 1,928 for averages of 3.11 goals for and 2.68 goals against per game. Toronto made the playoffs the 2nd most during the 20's with 7 makes and 3 misses. The did however, win the Victory cup the most with 4. Meaning when they were good they were very good but those 3 seasons they were bad, they were pretty bad. Their 1,928 was the fewest in the league and they were the only team to not allow 2,000 goals over the course of this 10 season stretch.

3 - Helsinki Titans

720 GP - 397 W - 273 L - 50 OT/SO L - 844 P - 2,443 GF - 2,025 GA - 5 Playoffs - 5 Playoff Misses - 0 Victory Cup Wins

Helsinki ended up being the 3rd place team in the league from the 20's with a 397-273-50 record in their 720 games. They managed 844 points with 5 playoff makes and 5 playoffs misses however, they didn't win a single Victory Cup in the 10 season span though which is a surprising considering how well they have done. Helsinki scored 2,443 goals which was most in the league while allowing 2,025 goals against for an average of 3.39 goals and 2.81 goals against per game. Not winning a Victory Cup during this time means that they were very solid if not spectacular. The Titans also fell just 3 wins shy of 400 in this era.

4 - Seattle Bears

720 GP - 366 W - 296 L - 58 OT/SO - 794 P - 2,363 GF - 2,173 GA - 6 Playoffs - 4 Playoffs Misses - 2 Victory Cup Wins

Seattle is the 4th team and finishes in the top half of the league with a record of 366-296-58 in 720 games. The Bears just missed out on getting to 800 points falling 6 shy. The Bears scored 2,363 goals and allowed 2,173 for averages of 3.28 and 3.02 per game. The Bears made the playoffs 6 times in 10 seasons while also winning 2 Victory Cups which is 3rd in the 20's. This leads me to believe that when the Bears were bad they were very bad because to win the Victory Cup not once but twice and make the playoffs more than the 3rd place team, the Bears were very bad when they were bad.

5 - New York Americans

720 GP - 346 W - 327 L - 47 OT/SO - 739 P - 2,280 GF - 2,446 GA - 5 Playoffs - 5 Playoff Misses - 0 Victory Cup Wins

New York starts off the bottom half of the league with a record of 346-327-47 for 739 points. The Americans also made the playoffs 5 times and missed 5 times during this time span. The Americans were very average during this decade which is a good thing because from S20 to about S24 the Americans were not very good so for them to be around .500 and in 5th place is pretty good if you ask me. The Americans scored 2,280 goals while allowing 2,446 for averages of 3.17 and 3.40 per game.

6 - Riga Reign

720 GP - 337 W - 326 L - 57 OT/SO - 729 P - 2,167 GF - 2,137 GA - 4 Playoffs - 6 Playoff Misses - 0 Victory Cup Wins

Riga comes in as the 6th ranked team with a 337-326-57 record for 729 points. Riga is much in the same boat as New York with 4 playoff makes and 6 misses which makes sense for a team that has a winning record but was stuck behind the Dynamo and Titans for much of the decade. Riga also did not win a Victory Cup during this time span. Riga scored 2,167 goals and allowed 2,137 goals for an average of 3.01 and 2.97 per game. Once again, Riga was good during this decade but wasn't anything special.

7 - Vasteras Iron Eagles

NO LOGO

720 GP - 320 W - 352 L - 48 OT/SO - 685 P - 2,117 GF - 2,213 GA - 3 Playoffs - 7 Playoff Misses - 1 Victory Cup Win

Vasteras is the final Euro team coming in at 7th with a 320-352-48 record for 685 points. Vasteras missed out on hitting 700 points which would make them closer to .500 but I guess what they can look back fondly on was that they won a Victory Cup during this time span. It is surprising that this team is one of the 4 teams to win the Victory Cup. The Iron Eagles scored 2,117 goals and allowed 2,213 goals for averages of 2.94 and 3.07 per game. One great season in the 20's was basically what Vasteras holds onto for the rest of time.

8 - Calgary Wranglers

720 GP - 265 W - 416 L - 39 OT/SO - 563 P - 2,007 GF - 2,867 GA - 2 Playoffs - 8 Playoff Misses - 0 Victory Cup Wins

The Calgary Wranglers prop up the rest of the VHL from the 20's with a record of 265-416-39 for 563 points. The Wranglers were the only team in the 20's to not reach 300 wins, lost more than 400 games and did not reach 600 points. The Wranglers also barely broke 2,000 goals with 2,007 goals and 2,867 goals against for averages of 2.79 and 3.98 per game, both were lowest and highest in the VHL's 20's decade. The Wranglers also made the playoffs the least and missed the playoffs the most. To say the 20's were not kind to the Wranglers would be an understatement.

Overall

Overall, this was fun to do and I can't wait to add more to it as we go further and finally year after year we add to it with each passing season. I think I might keep separate spreadsheets for when the VHL expanded but I don't know yet, maybe I will keep this one while adding Quebec and Cologne then start one with every team starting from scratch per say with Cologne and Quebec added in because the newer teams would most likely never catch the older teams. However, I will decide what to do when we get there.
