Groovy Dood Signs Extension with D.C.

Recommended Posts

WASHINGTON D.C. - Breakout superstar Groovy Dood has signed a primetime contract with the D.C. Dragons just weeks before walking away into free agency. The deal has a base salary of $3M but is expected to reach $5M before the contract expires. The Dood is signed through S78, with a mutual option to part ways ahead of Groovy's final two seasons.

I felt comfortable signing with D.C. again, explained Groovy Dood in a presser this afternoon. It was an easy decision with not much haggling involved.

Word is that GM @Enorama approached Dood with a league-minimum salary and a plan for success.

Everyone's been down on the Dragons since they've been TPA darlings and STHS duds for the past many seasons, but I'm going to be the one to buck that trend. Eno and I had a good chat about what's happening now and what needs to happen moving forward. This contract takes me into and out of my prime, so I had to sign somewhere I felt like I had a chance to win. As long as me and Stone Cold Wolski are around, the Dragons can beat anyone on any given day. Just ask the S74 Calgary Wranglers eh?

Groovy Dood was also asked by reporters to comment on the flurry of rumours surrounding the Dragons in this middlingly mediocre season.

On pending UFA Xavier LaFlammant:Yeah, X hasn't signed his extension yet. He hasn't mentioned anything to me about testing free agency this summer, but I can't see him passing up an opportunity to play alongside me. We'll co-win the scoring title and he'll be happy and stay; or we'll co-win the scoring title and he'll resent me for stealing the spotlight. Either way, it's just media conjecture at this point. I have faith in management to make prudent decisions for our team.

On Lance Flowers' transition to forward: Lance Flowers, woof, playing forward might not be his strong suit eh? It's too bad, we really needed a solid defenseman back there this season and Flowers' would've been a workhorse. It was a good experiment but not the "ride off into the sunset" season Lance needed to make a case for the Hall. He'll bounce back - it's hard not to score playing with Benny Graves.

On the public criticisms of teammate Jared Willis: Yeah, I've been a bit hard on Willis this year, you're right. He's been bad, but he's trying his best. Either his best will be good enough next season, or he'll walk away in free agency after S76. Either option works for me. By next season I'm planning on getting those juicy top-line opportunities back from him.

On the rest of S75: The season's not over yet guys, stop writing us off. We're sniffing the wildcard spot, and that counts as playoffs. I wouldn't be upset if there's a firesale at the trade deadline, but I want to see some bodies on the upswing coming back and adjusting into our lineup for the rest season. It's not over til it's over.

On the Free Agency class of S75: There are some unreal S73s out there with expiring contracts. I'm thrilled to be a part of the solution here in DC, and I expect management to be aggressive to add some of my peers to the team. There's a need on defense, but the best players out there are forwards. Always take the best player available, good players will never go out of style.

Alright I've given you goofs enough time and press. I'll see ya next year at the parade.
