Eagles has a great debut

Tom Eagles has made his anticipated debut with the Calgary Wranglers and he seems to be off to a good start in his first 2 games.

 

In his first VHL game the Calgary Wranglers lost in a high scoring affair 8-7 to the New York Americans. The Wranglers lost in a shootout and the team will be disappointed that they couldn’t get the win in their first game.

Tom scored his first point at the 11:56 mark in the first period as he setup Riley Couture. He then followed up with a second assist in the 2^nd period on Edwin THE Encarnacions goal. He also finished the game with 1 hit and 2 blocked shots.

 

“It was great to get out there and finally hit the ice in the Calgary uniform “ Said Tom “ I am happy that I got my first 2 points but we still lost and I would be much happier if we got the win. There is still a lot of work for me to do on my end especially defensively. I need to throw around my body more and make those smart plays. I think it was just nerves in this first game and myself and the team will get better”

 

The second game went much better as the Wranglers pulled off a 4-2 win over Toronto. Eagles has a much better game defensively and finished the game as the 2^nd star.Eagles assisted on the game winning goal scored by Patrik Tallinder. Eagles also finished with a +2, 1 hit and another 2 blocked shots. This was a much better performance from Eagles and hopefully his game will grow from here.

 

“ I was definitely more confident in this game and slowly starting to get my stride back “ Said Eagles “ I think the team played incredibly well and really bounced back from the first game loss. I tried to play more defensively this game and still managed to help out on the offensive side of things. I think we can be really happy with how we played and we should take this momentum into the next few games”

After these first 2 games Tom is sitting 3^rd in Defenseman points and 4^th in rookie points. If he continues playing the way he is, he might be in the running for rookie of the year. It will be tough competition as there are many great rookies playing this year such as Isua DaMoose, Red Lite, Battre Sandstrom, fellow Calgarian Sheldon Juniper and a few others that will make this an exciting race to watch.

 

“ While its great to win awards, for me its about trying to help the team win day in and day out “ Said Tom “ If the team is winning and if we are playoff contenders every season then I am happy. If some individuals awards come from that then hey, great but my focus in on the team and helping us win”

 

This has been an exciting start to the season for Tom and we will see how the remaining games play out for this elite level prospect.
