Looking Back at the Season 40 VHL Entry Draft: Part Three [Final 6/6]

Part One

Part Two

In my previous articles of Part One and Two, I looked at players such as Thomas O'Malley, Christoph Klose, Jody 3 Moons, Mason Richardson, Tyler Cote and Sachimo Zoidberg. With all of these players coming out of the same draft, it only goes to show that from this draft came a boatload of quality. The Season 40 VHL Entry Draft brought you superstars for sure, and it does not end there. Now I will take a look at a few more players.

Oskars Harumpf - 6th Overall

First off in this article we will take a look at the miniature man himself: The one and only Oskars Harumpf. Standing at a not so tall 5'5", Oskars has proven to the VHL that one does not need to whole lot of height to succeed at this level. He does have quite the bulky frame at 250lbs though. Oskars Harumpf was drafted 6th overall by the Helsinki Titans in this draft and has looked great in his days of VHL action. While not blowing anyone's minds, he has become a great asset to any team that wants depth and skill. In his first rookie season in S41, he earned 51 points with 19 goals and a +18 as a first year player. He also managed 115 hits showing that he could wreck you like a bowling ball. In his 11 playoff games that season, he had 5 points with 16 hits, but the Titans were eliminated by the Riga Reign in 6 games in the Semi-Finals. In the next season of Season 42, Harumpf showed growth in his game and improved his point total to 63 points. That includes his 22 goal milestone, and he also managed 37 shots blocked. In the playoffs that season he had 5 points just like the year prior, although this time in only 7 games, and they were eliminated by the eventual cup winning Cologne Express. The Titans of Season 43 were a team starting a rebuild, and Harumpf is still playing there while improving his numbers once again. He obtained 37 goals and 69 points this season but his team failed to make the post-season. Oskars has definitely shown to be a fine player in the VHL through three seasons.

Jerrick Poole - 4th Overall

Next up we take a look at one of the more underrated defenseman in the league, Jerrick Poole. This 6'6" hulking defender was taken at 4th overall in the draft and has quickly become Toronto's stud blue liner. Through Jerrick's VHLM days, he won awards with his team on the Ottawa Lynx that season with the Prime Minister's Cup (Regular Season Champions), and the Founder's Cup (League Champions). Winning it all in the minors, he moved up to the VHL with hopes that one day he would do the same in the pro league. Poole's first season in the VHL was right out of the draft in Season 40. In that season he had 12 goals and 60 points on a team going through a rebuild. Jerrick had 261 hits and 215 shots blocked in his magnificent rookie campaign. Following up that season in his sophomore year, he would put forward another season of prowess. In Season 41 he put up 84 points, this time with 14 goals. Although his hits and shots blocked were less than before, the numbers were still close to his milestones and he had 24 more points than his rookie campaign. In Season 42, he had 14 goals once again, but this time with 75 points. In that season he was a superb +52 on a more balanced Legion squad where he did not have to hit or block as many shots as he was used to. Toronto made the playoffs that season as well, but were outed in 5 games where Poole had 5 points. This season of 43, he managed to rise his goal level to 18, his best yet. He would only managed 61 points though, although that is still good for a VHL defenseman. Jerrick Poole and the Toronto Legion were eliminated by the Seattle Bears this season, so Jerrick has to look onto the next one for success.

Lloyd Light - 7th Overall

For the last portion of my article, I bring forth another great defenseman out of the Season 40 VHL Entry Draft, Stockholm Vikings defender Lloyd Light. Lloyd was taken at 7th overall by the Seattle Bears in Season 40. Before Light could even hit the VHL ice, he was traded in the Season 40 off-season from the Seattle Bears to the Stockholm Vikings for centerman Rift Pajodcast. Coming into the VHL as a rookie in Season 41, Lloyd Light managed to score a nice 35 goals and earned 77 points, although his Vikings team failed to make the playoffs that season, being a rebuilding squad. In Season 42, Stockholm got better as a team overall, and with that Light's numbers lessened a little while scoring 23 goals and having 63 points. The Vikings squeaked into the playoffs that season but were eliminated in 4 games to the Cologne Express. Lloyd had 1 assist in those 4 games. Season 43 is one where the Stockholm Vikings have had their best season yet, winning the Victory Cup. Lloyd Light managed 60 points and 14 goals this season and his team is looking like a strong contender for the Continental Cup. This stellar defenseman out of the Season 40 draft looks to have a bright future ahead of him.
