I figured it would be neat to go and look at the statistical leaders from S49's Titans and compare them to S50's Titans. It is quite early in S50 right now but all that means is I will have multiple opportunities to come back and review this later on and compare the projection to the actual thing. Might make this a "series" depending on whether or not I feel like it.

    Goals

    S49 - Kendrick Cole - 17 in 72 games or 0.24G/GP

Last season was not a kind one for Helsinki and I'm not sure we will find a better example than this number here. Freedom McJustic led the enitre VHL with 60 goals a mere 43 difference. The Titans will need to be better if they expect to rise in the standings.

    S50 - Thor Odinsson - 5 in 6 games or 0.83G/GP - On Pace For 60

While it is far too early to say Odinsson will be able to keep up this torrid pace all season and end up among the league leaders in sniping but I feel confident in saying that the new Titans captain will smash Cole's mark of 17 from last season.

    S49 - Theo Matsikas - 36 in 72 games or 0.5A/GP

When your leading scorer only manages 17 goals it usually means that you're not dishing the puck well enough but that isn't true in Matsikas case. There is only so much you can ask from a defenceman and leading your team in playmaking is usually not high on the list.

    S50 - Theo Matsikas/Shayne Gow - 6 in 6 games or 1.0A/GP - On Pace For 72

Matsikas looks to keep his playmaking crown with this hot start but fellow defender Shayne Gow is running neck and neck with him. This should make for a nice friendly rivalry between teammates and hopefully pushes them well past the 36 markers of S49.

    Points

    S49 - Theo Matsikas - 50 in 72 games or 0.69P/GP

Despite an awful season from the Titans Matsikas really acquitted himself well. Leading the team in points is an impressive feat for the rearguard even if was barely enough to land him among the top 10 defenders in the league.

    S50 - Thor Odinsson/Shayne Gow - 8 in 6 games or 1.33P/GP - On Pace For 96

Who is to say these kids can't keep this up and become top VHL talents overnight? Logic would dictate that they cannot keep doing it all season but they are playing prime roles for the Titans and where ice time goes production usually follows.

    PIMS

    S49 - Golden Jedtsson - 144 in 72 games or 2PIMS/GP

The physical defenceman was a shot block, hitting machine and that style usually comes with it's fair share of time in the sin bin. Jedtsson was able to pick up that much penalty time without getting a single fight. Will S50 see a new leader emerge?

    S50 - Asher Donovan - 17 in 6 games or 2.83PIMS/GP - On Pace For 204

The hard hitting rookie attracts a fair amount of heat and is well on pace to smash Jedtsson's 144 from last season. Donovan is an angry forward and already has one fight under his belt and will only see that number grow as the season goes on.

    S49 - Golden Jedtsson - 199 in 72 games or 2.76H/GP

Jedstsson was Helsinki's most physical player and his hitting was a welcome addition to the Titans. Setting a physical tone and hammering bodies was Golden's game and one he played well.

    S50 - Asher Donovan - 29 in 6 games or 4.8H/GP - On Pace For 348

It would appear Donovan is doing his best to one up Jedstsson's S50 season and that's just why the Titans selected him 4th overall. Donovan looks to be the teams physical presence for seasons to come.

    1st goal of the campaign...

how is my +/- -1 if we only gave up 1 goal and I scored a goal? At the very least shouldn't it be 0?

Goals scored on the PP don't affect your +/- and you were on for the only goal against.
