  1. RW Guy Lesieur Sends a Scorcher into the VHL! Brief Bio Guy Lesieur is a right winger from Quimper, France located in Bretagne in the northwest of the country. He is only 18 years old and at the beginning of his career. He stands an even 6’ tall and weighs in at 185 pounds. Guy is looking to be drafted into the VHML in tonight’s draft (9/9/19) and will be looking to his GMs to help guide his development. However, to date, he has been a pure scoring, sniper on the right side of the attack line. Strengths Slapshot This plays into Guy’s strengths with his absolute best skill being his blistering slapshot which he is as apt to let rip from the blue line as he is to skate it in closer for a shot from the circle or one-timing the puck from the slot. Guy takes an awful lot of pride in his shot, but he also knows that he needs to work on it a lot more if he is going to succeed in the VHML let alone get drafted into the VHL. Skating Guy’s second strength is his natural skating ability. Well, it’s not completely natural. It did come easily to Guy, but he has also worked on it diligently from the time he first learned at age 4. Guy is no diminutive waif, but he’s also not the biggest guy on the ice and so rather than muscling past a check and standing firm in his skates, he has always used his speed and ability to cut on a dime to get past a defender. This has also allowed him to avoid the penalty box more than most. Personal Character Guy’s third strength is more of an intangible, but just as important. Guy is a great teammate and a truly teachable player. He craves the limelight of scoring that game winning goal and wants the puck passed to him when the chips are down, but he is quik to give credit to all those who have set him up for the score and raves when the D play tight and stonewall the opposing offense. And he has always taken the advice of his coaches to heart. He knows that he can only see so much of himself and relies on those with trained eyes and experience to point him in the right direction for what he needs most to improve in his game at each stage of his young career. Weaknessses Physicality As for weaknesses, one has already been mentioned. He’s not the biggest, strongest presence on the ice and isn’t really one to mix it up in the corner as much as some of his teammates – not that he avoids it completely either or dogs it when grit is required. It’s just not a forte and probably never will be. It’s why he’s often been paired with gritty centermen and enforcers. The other teams gets a little too rough with their flashy scoring machine and they are quik to come to his defense to make them pay the price. Temper He also can be a bit hot-headed at this stage of his career and start yapping when it isn’t all that helpful to the team, but Guy is very willing to work on his discipline as he knows it’s an area that needs improvement. Not only does he hate giving his opponents the advantage in a power play, but it means he has to leave the ice as he’s rarely been on the PK. And Guy Lesieur absolutely hates to leave the ice! Checking A third weakness for Guy is his checking. Guy knows that defense is necessary and he’s willing to work on it, but it doesn’t come naturally and it has lagged behind to this point in his career. He can skate as well as most other players and he’s decent with a stick, but the physical side of checking is sub-par. He’s either going to need to develop that part of his game or improve his skating and puck handling that much more to compensate. Here’s hoping that this brief Rookie Profile will help VHML GMs evaluate Guy Lesieur accurately and see him for the diamond in the rough that he is.
  2. 1) Since it's not been too long since you've joined the league, what are thoughts on the league so far as a whole? I like the layout of the claiming and updating. I'm coming from the PBE and we don't have anything that approaches this kind of automation. I'll bet it cuts down on a lot of errors that updaters have to take care of in the PBE. 2) Are there any areas in the league that you would like to see a change/improvement? I don't want to punt this one, but I've also only been in the league for a few hours. I am impressed with what I've seen though and am eager to see things unfold. 3) The VHLM Newsletter launched earlier this week, did you read it and was it helpful to you? I haven't read it in close detail yet, but I did browse it and I LOVE the format. Very clear what the topics are and since I was recruited from the SHL (where I created only a few days earlier), the recruitment rewards were very interesting to me. So, I looked that up and see that I can earn my friend up to 15 TPE (nice!) in the following way: When your recruit hits 50 TPE, you're eligible for a 1 TPE payment, when your recruit reaches 100 TPE you're eligible for a 4 TPE payment. When your recruit hits 200 TPE, you're eligible for an additional 10 TPE payment. Each recruit can be worth up to 15 TPE. I'm really looking forward to getting to 200 TPE to get him the full reward, though I know that will take a while. 4) What are your aims this season in the VHLM? I just want to get drafted! lol So, I know from other sim leagues, you're bound to get drafted. But seriously, I just want to get on a team, learn the ropes of the league, improve my player to help my team, enjoy the LR, and hopefully improve enough so that I go higher in the VHL draft than I'm bound to go tonight. 5) With the teams starting to take shape, who do you consider to be the favourite for the VHLM Founders Cup? Looking at the last 3 years and believing past performance is the best predictor of future performance, I'd have to say Minnesota. They were in the top 3 2x in those three years, won it all in S65 and came in second in S67. Makes me feel they are a well-oiled machine with as good a chance as anyone in taking it all again. 6c) If a GM were to make you an offer, what kind of player would they be getting? (If you're currently unaffiliated). I'm very good in the LR with a decent amount of activity, but also very supportive. I'm not big into the drama that sometimes swirls around sim leagues and I'd rather encourage my teammates and cheer for my team than run anyone else down.
