  2. A Royal Farewell Big moves made this week in the VHLM as the Bern Royals shipped out 2 of their top players as they look to build for the future. It seems like the management have decided that the Royals were not ready for a serious run at the championship this year and instead turned their attention towards rebuilding through the draft for a future run as they acquire a collection of draft picks in the coming VHLM Dispersal Draft. First to go was team captain and point leader Jody 3 Moons. Jody joins the Watchmen and will look to be playing alongside Zoidberg and Harumpf in a 3-headed monster of a line. 3 Moons has been having a MVP caliber season thus far with Bern putting up 136 points in 52 games which ties him for second in the league for points and he will be sorely missed in Bern as they will have to find a way to fill that void in offense left by 3 Moon's departure. Bratislava will now boast 3 of the top 4 scorers in the league on their team and potentially on their first line. Could this superstar addition be the extra push they need to overcome the Storm and the Wild in the playoffs? Here's what Karlsson had to say about his good friend and mentor leaving: "Obviously it was a tough decision by our GM jaladolar but he realized that we would be a long shot at winning the championship this year as we've been a step behind the top 3 teams in the league and decided to look towards next season. I'm happy for Jody as he's going to get to play with his friend Zoidberg and he is joining what is already an offensive juggernaut of a team in the Watchmen and he gets a legitimate chance at winning the championship before he goes up to the big leagues next year. He's been a big part of welcoming me and helping me adjust when I first joined and I really appreciate and will miss his presence in the locker room." Next to go was the stud defender and alternate captain, Jaime Hill, who had a breakout performance in her second season. Hill will be heading to Oslo to join the league's top team as the Storm look to shore up their defense as they prepare to face the offensive monster that is the Bratislava Watchmen club. Hill joins the stingiest team in the VHLM this season as Oslo allowed only 111 goals against, over 50 less goals against than the second best defensive team. If the Storm and the Watchmen meet in the playoffs this year, it would be a clash of the titans in the form of an unstoppable force against an immovable object. Karlsson's thoughts on his partner and mentor being traded: "It's still hasn't really sunk in yet. Losing Jody and Jaime is obviously going to be a big blow to our team. They were both important leaders both on and off the ice. We'll be missing their on ice production for sure as there's no way we can make up for Jody's offense and Jaime's all around game from the blue-line but I think the bigger blow is losing two of our captains and we will have to find our new identity as a team as we move on. Jaime has been huge in my time here in at Bern. She's become like a big sister to me and I know Oslo is very fortunate to have her join them over there and I'm happy for her too as she gets a very good opportunity to win it all as the Storm are pretty much the best team around. Bern will be looking to rookies Kyle Kingma and Nicklass Karlsson to fill the shoes left by Jody 3 Moons and Jaime Hill. We'll see how they manage the rest of the season playing big minutes in bigger roles. Can Kingma and the veterans Parker and Stormborm generate enough offense? Can Karlsson and Cousins hold down the fort defensively and help Bodnar out in net to maintain their playoff spot?

  7. I slipped in Draft Rankings >: Have to climb back up some.
  8. Bern's last two games came against the Ottawa Lynx. The Royals lost the first game in penalty shots as 60 minutes plus an extra 5 couldn't solve anything. The Royals were up 2-1 in the first until the Lynx two in quick succession in the final minute of the period to put them up 3-2. The second period had each team exchange goals and the Lynx remained in the lead 4-3 heading into the third. Jody 3 Moons was the only one to score in the 3rd and he did so early on the power play. As mentioned, overtime didn't solve anything and in the shootout Lynx scored twice and only Jody Moons managed to score for Bern as the Lynx took the win. In the rematch things went much the same way as 5 goals happened in the first. Royals came out ahead 3-2 after 20 minutes. The second period went the same as the first game as each team traded a goal a side. The third period had both teams trade 2 goals as each team scored on the power play once and the Royals held on to their lead 6-5 and won in regulation. 200 words exactly.
  9. Royal Review PO Teams GP W L OTL P GF GA 3 Royals 35 22 9 4 48 155 125 As we get close to the halfway mark in the VHLM season the Bern Royals are sitting in the second spot in the European Conference and at the top of their division tied in points with the Bratislava Watchmen with a game in hand. Going into the season the Royals were thought by many to be the 3rd and final playoff team from Europe where the Watchmen and the Storm would be far and away the two top contenders after the two teams loaded up on 3 1st round picks in the Dispersal Draft each. Bern has done well though with the emergence of Jaime Hill and the superstar scoring of Jody 3 Moons and have exceeded expectations as they've played their way proving that they are contenders as well. The Royal's 22 wins and 48 points is good enough to put them third in the overall standings behind the Storm and the Wild. Let's take a look at how a couple of Bern rookies have done this season so far: Jaime Hill GP:35 | G:14 | A:38 | P:58 | +/-:15 | PIM:59 | HITS:126 | SB: 85 | TOI: 1038 Hill was drafted by Bern in the second round 17th overall with Bern's first pick in the draft. She has vastly improved her game from last season and quickly became an integral part of the Royal's defense as she has logged over 1000 minutes through 35 games so far this season which averages to almost 30 minutes a game. She has managed to score 14 goals for 52 points which provided some much needed secondary scoring behind Jody 3 Moons. She hasn't been shy about playing physically either as she leads the team in hits(126) and blocked shots(85). Selected as an alternate captain at the start of the season Hill has been leading by example on the ice and in the locker room and has played a major role in Bern's success so far. Nicklas Karlsson GP:35 | G:5 | A:15 | P:20 | +/-:16 | PIM:14 | HITS:59 | SB:59 | TOI:858 Karlsson was Bern's 3rd round pick in the Dispersal Draft at 27th overall. This was a rather bold selection by rookie GM "Jaladolar" as Karlsson had been relatively unheard of entering the draft with 0 TPE. Our sources say that the young defenseman was on Bern's watch list through Jaladolar's connections with Karlsson's agent. As the season started the Royals continued to show confidence in the young player as they selected him as an alternate captain alongside Jaime Hill and captain Jody 3 Moons. Karlsson has played all of the season in a defensive pairing with Hill and quietly been having a solid season. There's nothing breath-taking about his stats but he's played some solid defense, which has allowed Hill to be more aggressive on offensive and pinches. His 59 shots blocked places him third in the team and all 5 of his goals have come from the power play where he seems most comfortable on offense so far as he was known as a power play specialist coming over from Sweden. He's shown some steady improvement as he adjusts to the game and the talent level in the VHLM but has gone under the radar as most other rookies have been showing much more dynamic growth.
