We actually discussed both of your key points so I’ll just touch on them quickly. Firstly it was decided pretty early on to not hide the real attribute ratios because we felt it gave the BOG an unfair advantage since we knew what they were but no one else would. Even if we kept the final ratios from the BOG the devs would at least know it. This unfairness didn’t seem reasonable to us, especially when people would likely just reverse engineer it anyway. Secondly a large portion of our testing was focused on what the “meta gap” should look like. IE if scoring is maxed what should we have as the minimum passing to not be over-powered. This is what we based the ratios for those attributes on. So people can 100% sim for the “most meta” build based on current information but it’s not going to work out as they think it will since our testing shows that it actually makes you far worse than a “proper” meta. Additionally the cost would be very high and since an individual meta player is less of a concern than a whole team the issue should be resolved. Naturally things could go completely awry since obviously we couldn’t test every build but luckily with the foundation in place we can tweak the values if we need to. I do agree with you though that there is always going to be some “meta.” By definition a meta is just the best strategy and that will always be found. The key is keeping other strategies still viable which right now nothing else really is.

Your TPE goes into the hybrid attributes which translates the TPE into 1 or 2 STHS attributes in various ratios. This means, for example, that you can’t max scoring without adding to passing.

As we we have all seen between the thread earlier this season and the one yesterday both @Peace and @rory have decided to step down at the end of the season which leaves us with GM openings in both Toronto and Los Angeles. The league would like to thank both Peace and Rory for the time they devoted to GMing their respective teams and wish them all the best If you are interested in the openings, please post in this thread stating so. If you only max wrist shot and slap shot you won’t even be at 70 scoring. To get the rest of the way you’d need to add to offensive vision which adds to passing.

Like max on all those? Because if so that’s over 1200 TPA so that’s gonna be a challenge to sustain; also you’ll have sub-70 scoring.

You’d be surprised. I expected it to be a lot messier to deal with but when I actually played with the spreadsheets I realized that as long as you have the details laid out in front of you as to what’s going what and you can see the numbers on real time (which you will) then it’s pretty simple. Yes, it’s more complicated than the 1:1 we are used to but you don’t need to worry about the back end math much at all.

We tested lower scoring (the main effect on this) with current goalies and found the increase for them to be marginal, not even really up to usual levels compared to the insane lows goalies have been at for 20ish seasons. However with everyone adjusted evenly we can make “across the board” changes if we just need to up scoring for example by just increasing the scoring slider. The sliders would t work for fixing the meta because it’s just trying to fix one specific thing but for just “we need more goals in the league” they work fine. Additionally if we find that’s not enough or goalies need a re-work we can apply hybrid attributes to them as well. Do they though? The league has spent so long focussing on the same 2-3 builds and ignoring everything that doesn’t fit the mold to the potential detriment of other attributes that have gotten ignored. Ultimately aside from PURE meta there’s no build that’s been completely destroyed. They will take more TPE potentially but they aren’t ruined. Everything is still available to choose from.

A few points to touch on here. First that yes, our attributes being so high were a problem. We’ve discussed with Simon before and he has said that the engine isn’t really built to have players with max stats, let alone multiple max stats and let alone multiple of those players on a team. If you look at ratings for NHL players in STHS they are far lower. The second point to keep in mind is that everyone is adjusted so it may look bad on paper to see only your stats but it’s important to remember that everyone is being hit the same way so It’s all relative. Comparing what you had to what you’ll have doesn’t make sense because no one will have what you had anymore. The system changed and everyone changed with it. The third important thing to note is that trying to build exactly the same way may very well be very TPE inefficient now because of how things are spread out. Playing with it to find what works instead of just trying to get exactly the same can do a lot to optimizing things.

Everything is based on the hybrid attributes. Jagr, Recall, etc. those attributes directly affect STHS but nothing we do is straight up based on STHS attributes anymore except experience which will remain at 1:1 with no update scale and only the ability to add to it if it’s given / bought.

I feel like a lot of this comes down to playing with the numbers. It really opens your eyes to how much more option there is. Final builds may not end up hugely different but the path to get to them can fluctuate a lot now. Playing with them will not only allow people to figure out that path but also more easily understand the balance of attributes which is important. Initially O was just testing by recreating current builds and found that was way less of a solid way to understand it than just going in and trying to decide what made the most sense within the new system. Penalty Shot meta incoming.

I also meant to mention but forgot: @Gustav will be updating his build guide to align with these new attributes. I just decided to jump the gun on announcing it before he had time to do so. So that’s coming soon.

There was nothing in the rules about how GM’s were allowed to build their teams and there isn’t going to be. No rules were broken whether people liked it or not.
