  1. I'm happy I was even mentioned
  2. 10 TPE Bonus for Philip Stein
  3. For this article I've decided that I'll rank VHL teams solely based on how much playing time I'll get with each team. While I care more about the team than my own stats, I need something to write an article about to get some TPE. Tier 1 Moscow Menace, Vancouver Wolves Neither of these teams has a Left Winger on the team so I would definitely get some playing time immediately. Tier 2 Helsinki Titans, Malmo Nighthawks, Seattle Bears These three teams only have one Left Winger on their team so I should get some playing time fairly quickly. It won't be as much as the top two teams but as long as I'm playing I'll be happy. Tier 3 D.C. Dragons, HC Davos Dynamo, London United, New York Americans, Toronto Legions, Warsaw Predators These teams have two left wingers. I figure I'll still get some time playing barring anything unusual. I was really surprised to see how many teams have two or fewer left wings as I figured teams would be stacked. If I get drafted by one of the 11 out of 16 teams so far I'd almost certainly get playing time which is exciting. Calgary, LA, and Prague have 3 Left Wingers so I might get playing time there or they might just take an extra forward from a different position and stick him on the 4th line so we'll see how that goes but I'm definitely excited for the upcoming draft.
  4. 1. Considering the position you're playing now, what position would you recreate as for your next player? I may make a Center but overall I like playing as a forward 2. And big Holiday plans? Just spending time with family and relaxing as I'll have time off from college. 3. Can you ice skate irl? Nope. Not even a little bit. 4. What sports did you play/ do you play? I played a bit of baseball and basketball but most of my experience is in calling games not playing them. 5. Any gifts you want for the Holidays? I'm gonna get Hitman 3. 6. You have to take your team mates to dinner. Where do you take them? Perkins. It's a great restaurant and they're all over the US and there are a few in Canada so it wouldn't be hard to find one.
  5. It's been a rough start for us as we're 1-20 but I enjoy being on this team. The GM is great and I'm having fun playing with my teammates. I have 3 goals and 6 assists in 13 games which is more than I expected. But instead of being a downer I decided to rank VHL Logos. My favorite is the Seattle Bears. I love the Maroon and Beige color combination and I like the bear on the logo. 2nd is the DC Dragons because Dragons are cool and it's got a nice color scheme. Tied for 3rd are London United and the New York Americans. I love the use of flags in logos and these are both well done. There were a few logos that I didn't care for. While I understand that a Phoenix bursts into flames, the logo was a bit too bright and a bit hard to look at because of that. I enjoy the HC Davos team from NHL 08 but I've found that purple rarely works in logos and it doesn't work here. I like the idea of the Phantoms logo but It feels like 2 separate logos. The colorful inside and mostly black wings. I'd prefer if it was one or the other. Finally the LA one is too simple for me. Also it has the same color scheme as the Kings. Black, Grey, and White. Regardless of if I like a teams logo or not I'd be happy to play for any team.
  6. I'm on Ottawa but figured I'd answer anyway. 1. Warsaw has started hot, what do we need to do to keep this play up? Defense. Defense is the most important aspect of every sport. That's how you succeed. 2. Krishna has been one of the best goalies to start the season, how important is it for him to continue the great play? Vital. Like in Soccer, a goalie can make or break a team. His play will be key to Warsaw's continues success. 3. Who is the player in the locker room that always keeps you laughing? In the Ottawa Locker Room DoktorFunk the GM is a funny guy. 4. The team often goes out for dinner after a win, what do you order as a dish for everyone to share at the table? Bacon Cheese Fries. Three awesome things combind. 5. Have you been happy with your play to start this year? Definitely. I didn't expect to be playing as well I have. 9 points in 13 games is a great start considering I'm a rookie. 7. Which team do you get fired up to play against each time? Philadelphia. They're the best and I love playing the best.
  7. Claiming for First Gen Doubles
  8. DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER Philip Stein has been playing hockey since he could walk. He has always dreamed of making it to the VHL. People around him started to realize his talent when he was 7 as he was a better skater than some players older than him. Skating has always been one of his main skills along with passing. He was a smaller kid compared to the other hockey players even while he was in bantam hockey. He first gained recognition as a part of the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite AAA team. In his two years there at the ages of 13 and 14 he got 135 points (45 Goals and 90 Assists) in 90 games. He was in the local newspaper and was ranked as a top 50 US player under the age of 16 by many hockey sources. While many people locally saw his potential no one knew who he was outside of Pittsburgh. After his success in bantam hockey, he made the decision to go to Canada and play in the OHL. This was viewed by many as a controversial decision as he wasn't viewed as an elite player so people questioned if he could keep up with players in the OHL. That being said, most of those people hadn't seen him play and were just going based on the fact that he had been playing in the US bantam division and that he wasn't even the best player there. He was then drafted in the 5th round of the OHL Draft by the Sarnia Sting. Sarnia was criticized for this pick as he was viewed as a 7th or 8th round pick at best. He proved the doubters wrong by being the leading point getter in both of his seasons in Sarnia. Over his two years in Sarnia at the ages of 15 and 16 he got 204 points (68 goals and 134 assists) in 136 games and led Sarnia to their first OHL Championship and first Memorial Cup win. The Sting became the first team in OHL history to win every OHL Playoff series in 7 games. Stein had assists on all 4 game winning goals in each of the series. Because of the difference in league schedules between the OHL and the VHLM he missed eligibility for the draft and had to join a team via the waivers. 5 of the 12 VHLM teams made him an offer. He chose to join the Ottawa Lynx of the VHLM.
  9. 1. How was your offseason? It was awesome. I finished my college hockey career and now I've transitioned to the VHL and it's been super exciting. 2. What are your expectations for the S75 regular season? My expectation is that while we'll struggle, we'll be a much better team at the end of the season than at the beginning. 3. Who do you think is going to be a breakout star for our team? Kevin Sterk is definitely the best player on the team. He's a phenomenal player and I expect him to the lead the team in every major stat. 4. Who do you think would make a good Captain for the team? Aivars Kiris has the best leadership of anyone on the team so he would be a great captain. 5. Which VHL major team would you like to play for when you get called up? Purely based on logos I would like to play for Seattle. I like the Maroon and Gold combination 6. If we had to come up with alternate jerseys for this season, what color scheme would you want it to be? I would like to see a Black and Yellow style jersey as opposed to a Black and Gold jersey. 7. If you had to pick an NHL player/ goalie that your player resembled (skill wise), who would it be and what would the similarities be? Henrik Sedin as he was a great passer.
  10. Philip Stein is a Right Handed Left Winger out of the University of Maryland. He was the Co-Captain of his team for his junior and senior years. His strengths are passing, skating, and defense. His weaknesses are checking and scoring. He signed with the Ottawa Lynx for the rest of the season and will be drafted to both a minors and a majors team at the end of the season. Stein will be on the 1st line for the Lynx. He was asked about his thoughts on moving from the NCAA to the VHL minor leagues. "It's definitely a jump in competition. There's a lot of talent here and I'm excited to get started." said Stein. He was asked what he brings to a team. "I think what I bring to a team is hustle, determination and sheer will. I'd like to think that I have some talent as well but I can't say that for certain until I get some experience in the league. Hopefully my passing and defense skills will be visible when I play."
  11. I'm hitting the Lynx!
