  1. Swiss Central Gazzette As our regular readers know the Rotkreuz-native brothers Marcel (17) and Daniel Janser (18) ventured to North America to increase their draft chances into the best league in the world. In a last minute trade Marcel Janser’s rights were sent to Brigade from Warriors in exchange for future considerations. Both players are rather on the defensive side of the game with Daniel being a grinder and puck-mucker, while Marcel is a gritty shut-down defender. Shortly after arriving at the Brigade, Daniel was named Captain, an unusual honour for Swiss born players in North America (Streit, Hischier and Josi being the exception from the rule). Brigade played two games against the Royals and lost the first one 8-10 and and won the second one 4-2. The teams did not exchange flower bouquets in these two matches to say the least. Marcel alone got involved in three fights for a total of 25 penalty minutes. He also showed uncommon passing skills by contributing 5 assists in these two matches. Apparently Swiss coaches did not see this talent when he played in the domestic league. In game two, Marcel suffered a game misconduct halfway into the 2nd Period for his third fight this night, venting some of the pent up frustration over the defeat of the previous game. Apparently the referees have had enough of his shenanigans. Despite being the leader in PIM, he also shouldered the second-most TOI of his entire team, showing a negative 5 in the +/- rating. While a case can be made that Marcel showed outstanding grit and passing skills as well as stamina, we are sure his captain and older brother will have a stern talk-to about when and how to pick a fight, as the border between being a gritty player and a liability to one’s team is thin. Especially since the Brigade’s PK could use some tweaking as every third penalty lead to a goal against. The coach certainly has his work cut out for him. Nevertheless, Marcel left a mark in the game (as well as in his opponents faces) and we are convinced that with the proper training and with increasing experience, he will develop in a reliable defensive Defenseman with upside on the scoring side and time will tell whether he is the poor man’s ‘Tiger’ Williams or Ken Baumgartner. Daniel did only score two assists in the first two games of the season, but is credited with a positive two in the +/- department. He has a clean sheet when it comes to penalties, obviously keeping his temper in better check then his younger brother. He also had more checks (3) than his sibling (2). We would be amiss to not mention the performances of topscorer Kyosti Karjalainen who contributed 4 goals and 3 assists for seven points and Austin Towbraker who is top goalscorer with 5 goals to his name. Both players were huge assets for the Brigade in the last two games. The netminder Mike Horch was not exactly stellar with a save percentage of 0.881 but given the fact that he had to face over a hundred shots in these two games means he was not the only one to blame. Especially in the second game he made up with an impeccable performance compared to the previous game (.963 vs .787) with comparable shots faced (54 vs 47) and was deservedly named first star of the night. We will follow the saga of our two local heroes closely and keep our readers in the loop.
  2. #1. Who is your favorite VHL member? Why is it me? Because you put this press conference up for grinding players #2. How did you discover the VHL? Via Adam Couser's youtube channel #3. What is your favorite forum memory? {Ex. Mine is very recent, the whole Helsinki GM drama} Reading some Junior reviews, but I have not been a member for long. #4. Why do you continue to stay active in the VHL? Because I want my player to become an asset for his club #5. Do you try to max-earn each week? Why or why not? Not max-earn as I cannot allocate enough time to it, but I try to get as much as possible, with the time at my disposal #6. What's your favorite meal? Why is that your favorite meal? Mac and Cheese because it reminds me of my childhood.

  4. 1- Are you exited to be part of the Brigade? Yes I am, everyone is welcoming and members of the other teams participate in friendly banter. 2- How do you expect your player to do in the sim? Do you you want him to be more offensive, defensive or more like an enforcer? I hope Dan is bringing something to the table for his team. He is a two-way winger. 3- Is the VHL the first simulation hockey league you have been part to? Yes it is. 4-Do your player have any pregame ritual or any pregame meal? He is only kissing his necklace pendant of St. Jude for good luck (and maybe some protection) 5- Do you like how the Discord is managed? Do you have any suggestions to improve the Discord or our team locker room? So far I have no suggestions how to improve as all the are very friendly and helpful. 6- Last one. An off topic question. Which one do you like the most: waterslide or roller coaster? waterslide, I can't stand the sensation of my tummy hopping in my throat.
  5. what do you think about being drafted or signed to the steel? Do you like the teams so far? I have been drafted to Brigade, but everyone on the server in the locker room is very chilled (with friendly banter) and helpful For those of you who are new, what do you think of the VHL so far? And for you older players, what’s you favorite part of the VHL? I think it is a great idea to play several 'generations' of players. there is a lot to learn and to get used to. If you could rename the steel what would you name the team? Brigade What are you goals for you player in the showcase tournament? to develop into a useful two-way player and to get drafted as early as possible and to help his team to win. Do you think the steels have what it takes to win the showcase? It is difficult to say at this moment, but I think every team has a chance to the cup and teams will have to give their all to get there, Sam’s chicken nugget madness has found it way in to the discord. Do you like chicken Nuggets? And what’s the best dip for the chicken Nuggets? I do like chicken nuggets and for me the best dip is Cocktail sauce (Thousand Island sauce for some). I know boring.
  6. Daniel Janser is minuscule player for the sport of hockey. He was born one winter night 18 years ago, to two hard working parents. Neither of them could skate, so his first encounter was only in school when there was a school outing to the local ice rink. That was when he became enthralled with skating as soon as his rented blades touched the ice. A natural observer, he watched closely the other people on the ice and learned by mimicking them. It turned out that he was a natural skater, and by the end of the day, he was able to break and reverse skate. Of course these were only the first strides and he kept going to the icerink whenever time and pocket money would allow. It was not before long when he noticed kids playing pond hockey and he was fascinated by it. Being rather shy and keeping himself to himself it took him months to build up the courage to ask the other kids whether he can join in. First, the other kids only took him in as they were one player short, as one of the regulars had an injury. They thought he was rather skinny, but once they saw his speed and agility on the ice, they saw the errors of their ways. It did not take them long, to drag Dan to the local Hockey team. Again, the coaches thought of him as too timid and too lightweight to pursue the sport. But as soon as he touched the ice, he transformed from the shy, quiet, nice boy into a determined, no-nonsense and fearless player. He compensates his somewhat lackluster size and weight with speed, hockeysense and ferocity. He became a very efficient two-way winger and puck-mucker and always inspires his linemates to do one better than in the last shift. He plays smart but is not afraid to play hard as well. Whereas his determination and hockeysense is above average, he has not found his scoring knack yet and prefers to feed his line mates rather than shoot himself. He can play defence as well as winger and may fill in the role of a stop-gap center as well. Dan prefers to work against the puck rather than with it and takes extrem satisfaction to block shots, poke the puck away from an attacker, intercepting passes and get the occasional rush on a box-play. He does not lose faith even in the most dire situations but can get distracted/provoked if his sense for justice is triggered by foul and unfair play.
