I think saskatoon is a beautiful city but it is significantly smaller than my old teams city of san diego.

I expect at least 80 points this season.

I am looking forward to the quality of play that my wingers will have.

My player is unselfish and will pass when needed but can also put it in himself.

I sadly think that the bruins have the best chance especially after the start of this season.

I like mint chocolate chip because it can be a standalone flavor but improves with the right toppings.

    1. It was a long plane ride to finally arrive in Saskatoon but I find the city charming. Quite a bit larger than my last stop in USHL's Muskegon, MI. Can't wait to explore more and find my footing in a new place.

    2. I expect some growing pains my first year in a new league, but I think I'll be able to make the adjustment and hopefully make the fans cheer for their hometown Wild.

    3. I'm looking forward to my first professional point in the VHLM. It will be a major milestone in my career!

    4. I excel at playmaking on the offensive end and being a defensive stalwart on the back end. Killing penalties and getting apples, maybe banging in the occasional goal.

    5. As much as I hate to say it, I think the Bruins are going to take it with their bulletproof start. I think the Devils will hang in there but fade later in the year due to a little inexperience.

    6. I have to say the Lemon Ice Cream at Tyler's down in Florida. Shout out to Tyler!

    Name: Zigmund "Ziggy" Dupree
    Position: Left Wing
    Height: 72 inches
    Weight: 190 lbs
    Hails From: Muskegon, MI
    Preferred Number: 88

    Player Bio:
Born and raised on the west coast of Michigan in the city of Muskegon (population about 38,000). His love of the game came from watching the early 2000's Detroit Red Wings and their runs to the Stanley Cup finals and multiple championship wins. Even though he wasn't the biggest of kids, he idolized the play of Eric Lindros of the Philadelphia Flyers. He developed his style trying to emulate the combination of size, strength, and scoring touch. Unfortunately, he did not get dealt the same genetic hand of cards and currently stands at 6 feet tall and a sold, but not necessarily impressive, 190 lbs. After progressing through the house leagues in earlier childhood, Ziggy advanced to the local Peewee and Midget team, the Muskegon Chiefs.

Not living up to the scoring standards of the elite players in his age, Ziggy was always one of the top playmakers in his age group. He learned to do all the "blue collar" parts of the game and to excel at them. This may involve digging pucks out of the corners, aggressive forechecking, killing penalties, playing the body, and getting the puck to the scorers on the team. After setting assist records in the WMHL in the 16-year-old age bracket Ziggy would be drafted in the 3rd round of the USHL Entry Draft by the, you guessed it, his hometown Muskegon Lumberjacks. After putting up 61 points in 62 games in his last season, Ziggy is ready to take the next step in his hockey career.

Hoping that a team in the VHLM will take a chance on him, he wants to climb the career ladder and make it to the show, the VHL. Ziggy plans to forego his NHL eligibility because of the international and grassroots aspects of the VHL. Ziggy would like to hopefully join the Saskatoon Wild for the upcoming season and develop as a player. It seems like they have fostered an environment of progress and player progression. A run at the VHLM cup would be ideal as a start to his professional career.

    Playing Style:
Ziggy is a primarily a playmaker with a grittier side to his game. Playing responsible defense and starting the rush the other way is what he excels at the most. Everyone has a job to do on the ice and Ziggy likes being the straw that stirs the drink, the sparkplug, the catalyst, ect.

    Beginnings of a New Season

Saskatoon - The VHLM season has long past, and the off-season commenced around over a week ago. Meaning that the draft season is here, that’s right, the opportunity to draft the next biggest thing awaits for VHLM GMs. This draft was loaded with talent, from top to bottom as new teams hope to draft the next biggest thing out there. Back in Saskatoon, the feeling inside the city is calm and hopeful that the new batch of young recruits will put on a show for them once the season rolls around. Let’s take a look at them shall we?

6th Overall Pick: Yaroslav Trunov @qripll

Trunov has been noted as an offensive machine by many scouts. Coming into the draft, the 6 foot, 185 pound winger was one of the best forwards on the draft board. Saskatoon just couldn’t refuse to pass up the offer to pick Trunov. Although not a very defensive player, scouts would be quick to point out. He makes up with his unique shooting and goal scoring abilities. He will be the face of the new offensive group here in Saskatoon.

10th Overall Pick: Reinhard Von Kongming @Kylrad

Reinhard Von Kongming is a small but buff defensemen hailing all the way from the Isle of Man. Although he might not have all of his defensive skills lined up just yet. Von Kongming was noted to be a defensemen with a very high upside coming into the draft. Von Kongming will have big shoes to fill as one of the focal points of Saskatoon’s defensive core.

16th Overall Pick: Admir Bala @Tyler

Coming into the draft, people knew that the need for new defensemen was going to be a big concern for Saskatoon next season. Which is precisely why they added another young stud in Admir Bala. Admir is one of the fairly new and younger players in the draft, but that didn’t stop him from showing scouts his raw defensive power. Although there is plenty of room for improvement in Bala’s game, Saskatoon knew that Bala was just the person to solidify and beef up the defense. We hope to see Admir Bala making an impact in his first full season as a member of the WIld.

26th Overall Pick: Zlatan Ibrahimovic @Markusbg

Another forward to add onto the Wild roster. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is an amazing center that has already shown that he has a future in hockey. He joined midway through last season as a waiver pickup for the San Diego Marlins and did not disappoint. Dropping 32 points in 55 games, he showed scouts flashes of offensive brilliance with his tenure in San Diego. Zlatan will right away make an impact for Saskatoon's offense.

30th Overall Pick: Shawn Juhamatti Aaltonen @TheLastOlympian07

Aaltonen is another winger that has shown promise to scouts alike. He will be an amazing depth piece for Saskatoon, at 6’0 and 187 pounds. He shows poise and composure with raw playmaking abilities as a young forward. Although we still haven’t seen him play a VHLM game in his career yet. Saskatoon is sure that picking Aaltonen will not be a fluke.

42nd Overall Pick: Beep Beep Bedard @dart

Bedard will be playing alongside Aaltonen as Saskatoon once again, hopes to improve its offensive depth that it severely lacked last season. Bedard is another winger that has plenty to prove in his first VHLM season.

46th Overall Pick: Flynn OSteel @tylerwest

Flynn OSteel is a defender that could possibly help out the Wild’s season. Listed as 6’5, he’s a big and mighty defensemen that shows glimpses of physicality and great passing technique. Saskatoon views him as a diamond in the rough, if they can untap his potential, he’ll be a game changer for this team.

56th Overall Pick: Joe Dee @I'll change this later

Another one of those defensemen. Joe Dee is listed as a big 6 '8 and 250lbs. Due to the fact he’s from North Korea, not much is known about the guy. But he showed up on the draft board one day and Saskatoon took a chance on him, in hopes to see if he could become the next big thing.

66th Overall Pick: Asher Boham @Astalabohame

Last but not least, we have goaltender Asher Boham. Boham was mentioned as a low-rated prospect. As a result of this, he fell all the way to the seventh round. Since Saskatoon had realized they had no starting goalie, they decided to pick him up. Maybe there was some glimmer of hope in Boham. Although by no means was he an amazing goaltender. If he can make it past training camp, anything can happen. For all we know, he could turn into a hall of fame goaltender. Boham could very well take the starting goaltender position for the Saskatoon WIld, it’ll be interesting to check back up on him in a few weeks time.

It’s not only about the new draftees though. It’s also about the returnees from last season that Saskatoon is fortunate enough to have come back. For example, Nick Trash @nikkisixx089, Mats Zuccarello @Battlepopcorn, Oli McGee @Oli-La-Poutine and Barack Obama @Joe Biden will all be back for the Saskatoon Wild if everything goes smoothly. This group of players will bring leadership and experience to the young Saskatoon Roster.

Fans are especially optimistic about the new acquisitions, one fan goes onto state, “It’s going to be a fun time to be a VHLM fan, teams are loaded with talent this year and it’ll be an especially tight race in the Western Conference. Saskatoon has built up a pretty decent team from the draft, we’ll see how it all plays out when the season starts. But things are looking up for this team.”

It’s great looking at all the new additions that the Saskatoon Wild has implemented to their roster. Although they had to say goodbye to fabulous players from last year, they have brung in much more talent than that of last year. Saskatoon is going into the season under much better shape than it was last year. Although there is still glaring uncertainty around the goaltending position, they have much better depth in the offense and defense. They can definitely do better than their last season’s first round exit.

    GETTING UP EARLY

    Name: Leonard Triller
    Position: RW
    Height: 6’3"
    Weight: 210 lbs
Place of Birth: North Battleford, Saskatchewan
    Preferred Number: 14

Leonard Triller grew up in a small town in Saskatchewan about 30 mins from the Alberta border.  Winters were long and not particularly kind.  His Dad taught him to skate from a young age using a time-tested technique, the chair.  The closest rink was 40 mins away but his Dad built him one in the backyard, not to practice, but to simply have fun.  His parents always let him drive his own passion.  "It's easy to get up to do something fun", was his parents' motto.  Before the school bus came, Leonard was out under the floodlights skating as the sun came up and then was out skating on the frozen Saskatchewan River after school was out.

For most of Leonard's minor league play, he played above his age group.  They moved him up early and while the other kids were bigger, he was faster and had a keen hockey sense.  A natural goal scorer who could avoid the bigger bodies.  Then came the growth spurt.  Seemingly over a summer Leonard shot up and quickly became the player he had always played against.  This caused an extreme change in his game.  He had lost some speed and coaches started to utilize his size on defense to punish the opposition.  Leonard wanted to get back to a forward position so the next summer he signed up for a power skating camp and a figure skating camp.

Up at 5 am, Leonard's Mom and Dad were happy to drive to camp as they noticed the change in their son's hockey goals.  Power skating taught him how to use his larger frame to get up to speed quickly and though unconventional, figure skating taught him to be light on his feet and to utilize his edges.  Not a fan of the costumes, but a huge fan of how he felt on the ice.  This showed as Leonard made the cut as a forward on his first AAA tryout.  His 2-way play from his time on defense gave him more utility than before and his new size allowed him to dig pucks on the cycle and put them out in front of the net for his teammates.  Assists became second nature and his power created issues for opposing teams.

After a couple years of AAA play, Leonard decided it was time to up his competition.  With the VHL in sight, he put his name on waivers in the VHLM and received some offers, one being from the Saskatoon Wild, where he currently lived.  A good way to start, playing at home.

Bulduray_1 reacted to Spartan in New VHLM Waiver System
For the second time today, hello!

We were very excited to welcome two new VHLM GMs today and felt that we should keep the party going with a second announcement. Last season, @Gustav  and I made two significant changes to the workings of the VHLM - increasing VHLM GM pay from 2 TPE to 4 TPE, and changing up the draft pick holding rules to prevent unhealthy asset management in a league oriented towards development and retention. We promised to increase the quality of the VHLM GM experience, but last season felt more like we were restricting our GMs as to what they could and couldn't do.

Today, we'd like to announce our largest change yet - a completely revamped waiver process and system that is now fully run through the portal. That's right! VHLM GMs no longer have to post offers into waiver threads or constantly lurk the forums in order to secure a new player. This system also puts the decision-making process into the hands of the newly created player with a simple yet informative UI thanks to the work of @Dil. Here's what new creates will see immediately after creating their player:

(Data and teams are from S80 for testing and demonstration purposes)

We chose elements for this page based on what we felt were the most important aspects of a team that influence a player's decision. All the teams will be sorted by standings, and the # of players per team is also visible. This should allow users to have a better understanding of the situation they're walking into. Using the screenshot above, a new center would see that some of the top teams could use a third line center, but Las Vegas is the best team that can offer them a top 6 role. We hope that this new UI will give enough information to new creates without overwhelming them in a sea of data points.

To add a bit more of a personal touch from the GM along with more information on a potential player's fit on the team, we've given VHLM GMs the ability to write (and update via Team Management) a pitch and projected position that new creates can choose to read when picking between teams:

(Sample text for what a new user would see)

Once a new create chooses a team, they will be redirected into a forum DM created between the new create, the team GM and the team AGM if the team has one. This will alert the team's management that a new create would like to join the team so that they can begin interacting with the new user, invite them to the team LR and get them signed to a contract. The automated DM will also include helpful links to forum content such as the TPE Guide and the Updated Build Guide. As many have mentioned before, new creates sometimes simply never venture into the forum or feel like the forum is too difficult to navigate in terms of finding relevant and helpful content. This new process both redirects new users to the forum and presents them with resources to begin their VHL journey on the right path.

Finally, this system can be modified at the discretion of the VHLM Commissioners. Based on the league population and positional data, we can change what we consider to be "full" teams, and increase/decrease the threshold for a team's position to display as favorable or unfavorable. This system will also be deactivated from the start of the playoffs until the conclusion of the VHLM Draft. Any creates during playoffs or the offseason will need to be signed via written pitch in their new create thread, as was the common practice.

    ---

We're very excited to see this new system in action for S86 and hope that it improves the overall experience for new VHL users. Expect to see various VHLM rule changes being announced in the coming days as we transition the VHLM rulebook away from the old waiver system, and remove rules largely created to incentivize GMs making written pitches to new players. As always, please let us know if you have any questions or feedback!
