  3. As a young kid growing up I played hockey just like everybody else in my town. I was always a step quicker than most in the ice and loved the game. I always played defence would’ve never imagined I’d make it as far as I have. My junior career was far from what I expected. I was always more of an offensive minded defence man in my younger playing days, but when I arrived to play my first season of junior hockey at 16, I had to remould my game as the competition was growing stiffer. I started working relentlessly on my defensive game, getting into the dirty areas, working on my body position and getting more gritty with the hopes of rounding out my game and making the big leagues some day. As a small defender I had struggled with some of the mentioned however I always persevered and found a way for myself to battle adversity. My rookie season I finished as a negative player and was pretty beat up which caused me to go into overdrive on the defensive game during that off season. I also got the gym to bulk a bit as I was only 150 in my rookie season. My next season was much better as I saw an increase role and was a positive player almost every night and even got a touch of the powerplay where I excelled. I quickly turned that powerplay into my own and quarter backed it for half the season putting up a respectable 15 powerplay points but this was just the the beginning of it. In my final junior season I was primed for a huge season and delivered. Putting up over a point per game and quarter backing the powerplay while maintaining a positive +\. I ended up winning player of the year and our team took home the Calder cup as the captain of the team. It was quite a rush and we made the most of it. I hope I can replicate that success in the vhl. I’ve had a pretty good transition to the VHLM but I need to work on my offensive output with this higher competition. I know this is a tough league and I believe I can be successful. With a little bit of training and a bit more rounding out I hope to have a successful career with some accolades.
