NHL Mock Draft by members of the VHLM HFX 21st
LucyXpher replied to Starchychaff's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
For what it’s worth, I’d personally take Demidov 2 and I wanted Eiserman to the Sharks at 14, but that was the fun of doing this collaboratively and having different opinions. I don’t necessarily disagree with your take, but I don’t think it’s impossible that the Hawks pick a defenseman either lol -
Amazing!!! I love it, so glad you made this for yourself! The layout and style are really cool too!

Another week and another strong showing for the BOAT GANG! With only 1 regulation loss this week at the hands of the San Diego Marlins, the Halifax 21st continue their smooth sailing ways. The loss to San Diego represents only the 4th regulation loss of the season and only the 2nd in Halifax's last 38 games. It's been an incredible stretch of hockey for the Nova Scotia squad and at the heart of their recent success has been mid-season addition Anthony Simmons II @Starchychaff. Since joining the team, he's recorded a staggering 39 points in 26 games, 19 of them coming over this past week of play. On the season, he's now up to an impressive 60 points in 42 games. Simmons II has fit like a glove on Halifax's 2nd line alongside the leagues leading scorer, Robin Sierra @ethanjaeda, and the two of them have developed instant chemistry, combining Simmons II's speed, size, and scoring touch with Sierra's slick puck skills. Alongside them, Bret Weier @Quanack has been coming into his own after joining the team as a waiver player earlier in the season and is now up to 15 points. Though his point totals may not yet reflect it, he's been taking great strides off the ice to develop and it's only a matter of time before he breaks out. For Anthony Simmons II, it was not only a successful week on the ice, but his off ice contributions have also been noted by management and teammates alike. Despite being a new face on the team, Simmons II has quickly become an active member in the Halifax locker room and was at the center of a recent mock draft project which looked at the top draft eligible prospects in the NHL and where they might end up on June 29th when the first round is scheduled to take place. As mentioned before, the SuperSailor award is presented weekly not only to the top player in daily games, but to the player that combines that on-ice success with support of teammates, locker room positivity, and building up the community around the team. "I've really appreciated the enthusiasm that Simmons II has brought to the team since he's been here. The draft project was a lot of fun and a great way to keep things interesting around the team-- not to mention his performance on the ice has been incredible so far! I couldn't be more pleased with the early returns from this player and he's been a great leader for us since he arrived." (Halifax 21st GM - Lexie Leitner) With 30 games remaining in the Season 94 campaign, the BOAT GANG made another splash leading up to the trade deadline, acquiring winger, Meghan Dancalot @diacope from the San Diego Marlins. With the early success and impact of Simmons II, the 21st will surely be hoping that Dancalot meshes quickly with the group on and off the ice as they prepare for an important playoff berth and the rougher waters ahead-- still chasing the franchise's first ever Founder's Cup. With week 3 of Season 94 in the rearview, congratulations to Anthony Simmons II on being named the 10th Halifax 21st SuperSailor! ༻❁༺

But seriously, AJ, you're a huge reason why I'm on this forum and having such a great time with this league. If it wasn't for you, I probably still wouldn't have joined the Bulls Discord and I'd probably have missed out on all the fun of that S92 team. My GM of the Year forever! I'm sad that you won't still be in Houston, but after 9? seasons I think it's totally fair to say you're ready for the next thing-- and I really hope you find it! You're an incredible GM, someone who really keeps things fun and lively around the team, and I'd love to see you make a move up to the VHL. I think you'd do amazing things there like you did in Houston! So thanks for everything and best of luck with whatever comes next! Don't worry, you can come over for tea in Halifax anytime you want, I found where Dyl keeps his stash...

The linked article is fantastic and provides a lot of food for thought for anyone who cares to take the time to read it! The opinion that everyone should read it is definitely one I agree with! Also— and maybe this doesn’t need saying, but I’ll say it anyway— I’ve enjoyed reading your opinions and really appreciate that you put them out there, even if I haven’t always agreed . What’s not debatable is that you care about making this league and community a better place. As someone who is still working through my first gen career and is still relatively new to the league/forum, I find it’s helpful and insightful to engage with your opinions as you bring experience, thoughtfulness, and a successful track record to the table with you. So lest anyone get the wrong idea about some of our recent discussions, I just want to say that it’s precisely because I respect your opinions that I take the time to engage with them. I’ve always come away with more to think about after reading you and those dialogues are a great opportunity to dive deeper into new ideas here that I may not have considered— there’s definitely a lot to learn and always new perspectives to consider. All that to say, your contributions are very much appreciated so thank you for sharing them!

I like the questions this week, so I'm going to answer this press conference lol 1. The VHLM is super important to me! Even though my player has already moved on through the VHLE and I'm now in my first season in the VHL, the M still holds a special place in my heart and it's actually one of the most exciting leagues because of all the energy and enthusiasm that a lot of new players bring. It seems like sometimes people lose that spark as they move up or things become more about just maintaining a level of development over time. But I've seen a lot of creativity ad original forum posts from M players and that's really fun and exciting! Also just the raw enthusiasm for beginning to build a player-- that's just not there where you're 5,6,7 seasons in. 2. Well, for Halifax, we like our team pretty much the way it is and we're not really looking to trade any of our players away. That being said, if there's an opportunity to add one more player that could give us a depth option in the playoffs or really solidify our forward core, I think we could potentially try something there-- but it's certainly not a dire need and not something we're going to do if it doesn't make sense. 3. The number I'd guess is 57-- which would be 6 more than last season. I'm cautiously optimistic that we'll have a strong finish to the season, but our schedule certainly doesn't get easier down the stretch as we'll be seeing a lot of Miami, Mexico, and Saskatoon, so those are games that can definitely make a difference. 4. If my player got traded, my top choice would be Malmo. I really like alot of the people they have on their team and they've been super fun to interact with on the forum-- and they make amazing posts! I also super love the Nighthawks aesthetic and Sweden is awesome. AND also, the Malmo Redhawks are probably my favorite SHL team-- not that I watch a ton of the SHL-- but I always thought the name and logo were pretty cool and, honestly, I think the Nighthawks' is even better! 5. I'd give a lot of credit to my first GM here in the M, which was @AJW. When I joined the league, I definitely did not expect to become so invested in it and it took me almost a week to even join the team discord after I joined the team because I didn't really know what to expect or if it was something I would enjoy. AJ was super welcoming and made it really easy for all of us new players to come together and just have fun. He also did an incredible job of helping to explain things when we were confused, but also just making himself available if we ever had questions. Honestly, if it wasn't for AJ, I don't think I'd be on VHL still and probably would have missed out early on-- so thanks AJ, you're the best! 6. 72. It's a no brainer win-win. I get $360,000 for sitting out all season AND my team can replace me with a player that can actually shoot the puck and defend well and will probably help win more games. This is better for the team! And obviously for me too lol

Just to provide a bit of context, the render I chose for my GM graphic is Jessica Campbell who is currently an Assistant Coach for the Coachella Valley Firebirds. With Dan Bylsma's recent promotion from head coach of Coachella to the Seattle Kraken, Campbell (one of his former assistants) is currently being considered for an NHL assistant coaching job. If selected, she would become the first woman to hold a full time coaching position on an NHL bench, which would be a huge step forward for women in hockey and something that would be really exciting to see! Regardless of whether she gets this job, Jessica Campbell has an incredible story which is definitely worth looking into and I'm linking a great article here as well for anyone interested in reading more! https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/2772564 Anyway, I just thought I'd share this info since I think it's a great opportunity to get more eyes on someone I really admire in hockey and who is really paving the way forward for more women to get involved in the sport! Update: On July 3rd, 2024, Jessica Campbell was named as a full time Assistant Coach for the Seattle Kraken! ༻❁༺
