  1. THE OTTAWA TIMES The Rise of a Star: Kendrick Cole Written By Anton Brekker Feb 11 2016 11:48 PM EST CHILDHOOD & UPBRINGINGS Kendrick Cole was born in raised in a lower-middle class neighborhood in the eastern portion of Vancouver, British Columbia. Cole was brought into the world by his Norwegian Mother, and Canadian Father. He is the youngest of four children, with two sisters and a brother. All four children spent their elementary school days in the comfort of their own home, being taught by their mother who was previously a school teacher before immigrating to Canada. His childhood home was a breeding ground for top notch athletes: fully equipped with a weight room, and a large backyard set-up with lines on the concrete to mimic a hockey rink. There has been a theory in the sports world regarding the evolution of an athlete into the professional level being that one needs to spend at least 10,000 hours perfecting skills through trial and error. To question whether Kendrick and his siblings had reached those hours in their childhood would be ludicrous. An image of the ice rink at the Cole residence provided by Kendrick's father. "I felt like I had a good childhood, we didn't have as many luxuries as the other kids in the neighborhood, but my parents provided with us with the gift of sport. All of my siblings are destined to become professional athletes, that alone attests to my childhood. I can't thank my parents enough." Another interesting tidbit is that Cole is related to famous rapper Jermaine Cole, who recently produced a platinum selling album. HIGH SCHOOL YEARS As soon as Kendrick finished up to grade 7, his family decided it would be in their best interest to enroll the children into Killarney Secondary School so his mother could begin working; after all, raising a household of hockey players is not a cheap task. It was a difficult transition for Cole, as he did not have the chance to form connections that his pupils had in elementary school. With this, Cole was a picked on as a student. Instead of basking in sorrow, he decided to spend more time in the weight room, something that would provide a solid foundation for his breakout years in junior hockey. Let's just say that this bullying did not last too long. By the end of his senior year of high school, Cole was named valedictorian, which no one would have predicted in his junior years. An image of Cole putting in work in the gym found in his high school year book. "Kendrick was an interesting character in high school. He came in as a freshman being extremely awkward, and had a difficult time forming social bonds; however, by his sophomore year people in his grade began to look up to him. His hard work was admired by everyone, without it I don't think our school would've been able to pull off as many provincial championships as we did," said Jermaine Lamar, one of Kendrick's best friends. Killarney Secondary recognized Kendrick's hard work by naming their ice rink after him, and are providing a scholarship in his name to students excelling in their studies while maintaining athletic excellence. JUNIOR HOCKEY YEARS & VHLM After his senior year at Killarney Secondary, Kendrick fully focused his daily life on preparing to enter the VHLM draft. He performed two a day workouts with rink time in the morning, and weights in the evening. At the end of it all, Cole ended up being picked up by the Yukon Rush at the roster deadline as a free agent. Although the Rush did not do quite well that particular season, it allowed Kendrick some time adjust to the heightened pace of the minor league. He ultimately ended up being picked up by the Ottawa Lynx, where he is currently spending the season and enjoying a break out year. Cole has made immense efforts to get involved with the community, spending a generous amount of time visiting the local children's hospital, and even starting up a community fundraising hockey tournament benefiting kids. Image of Cole suited up representing his high school in the provincial championships. "Being the mayor of this beautiful city, Kendrick's efforts have been appreciated immensely by my council. We are rooting for the Lynx to win this championship, Kendrick absolutely deserves it. We hope to see him in future games at Toronto, and wish him the best of luck in all his future endeavors," exclaimed mayor Rob Valentine at a press conference. The Lynx are currently tied for first place and are looking to make a serious push for the VHLM championship this season. Kendrick had a humble upbringing that will shape his future in the VHL into a successful career. He is heavily involved in his community and will be a valuable asset in any city. FUTURE OUTLOOK Cole is set to take part in the 48th VHL entry draft this upcoming offseason. He is a highly touted prospect, with the potential to be a first line center; however, he still remains a wild card as scouts have not had the time to fully evaluate his game. If he stays true to his roots that have made him the player he is today, there is no questioning that Kendrick will be an impactful player in the VHL. On a more personal level, Kendrick began dating Kendall Jenner who he met at the Victoria's Secrets fashion show. Whether or not this impacts his game will be looked upon, as the Kardashian clan has been known to hamper or end the careers of their significant others. Cole pictured with Jenner at the Victoria Secret's Fashion show reception. "Kendall is an awesome person, but at the moment I would like to focus all my efforts on entering the VHL draft. She understands this completely and I am thankful for it. As of today, I would appreciate if questions from the media address my hockey career and not my person life," said Cole in a statement released by his public relations team.
  2. Kendrick Cole Currectly Guesses Kanye West's Album Title Kanye West recently took to the twitter world to propose a contest to draw hype to his latest studio album. To do this, he provided the initials for the album's title, and asked his followers to correctly guess the title. The winners of this contest were flown out to New York to attend Yeezy Season 3, where the messiah himself showcased his latest clothing and his album. The title of the album was "The Life of Pablo". "I was recently watching the netflix series Narcos on my down time from training, and just thought I'd throw in an entry for fun using Pablo Escobar's first name. When Ye sent me a message saying I had one, I was pumped. Even though it conflicted with practice time, my wonderful General Manager Jardy allowed me to have the day off!" said Kendrick Cole. The Lynx are currently seeking the title in the VHLM's North American conference.

  4. Ottawa Lynx Hoping to Pass the Yukon Rush in VHLM Standings With the return of star forward, and leader of the Ottawa Lynx, David Hamilton hopes to take charge in usurping the Yukon Rush in the North American conference. They are currently sitting 2 points back from tying the Rush; however, they currently have played a couple extra games than the rush have. "We've got a young roster that is just getting better and better every week. Come playoff time, I think we will have a well-rounded team that will have a serious chance of winning the VHLM championship." said captain Hamilton. Cian Mercer, who is a rookie of the Lynx, is currently the point leader and has a bright future ahead of him in the VHL. "Mercer has been great. When a young guy like that steps up it makes the jobs of the rest of the team much easier. Kendrick Cole has also been improving vastly this year, I see him everyday in the gym or at the practice facility."
  5. First sig in a few years....... yikes.
  6. Lynx' Forward Kendrick Cole Hosts Charity Game As an active member of the Ottawa community, the Lynx' right winger hosted a charity hockey game between current players and alumni members. The tournament's proceeds of $10 000 will be benefiting the local children's hospital. "Giving back to the community is something all players should be striving for, and is something I was raised to view in high regards," said Cole in a press release from his player agent. "The fans come out every night to support the team, it is my way of saying thank you". Cole is currently touted to be drafted into the VHL as a mid first rounder. He has a total of 42 points, and is among the league's top goal scorers. The Lynx are in the playoff picture as of now, and will only improve on their current roster to put them in a great position to win the championship.
  7. NAME: Kendrick Cole BIRTHDAY: January 5 1998 HOMETOWN: Vancouver, Canada HEIGHT: 6'2" WEIGHT: 195 lbs POSITION: Right Wing CURRENT TEAM: Ottawa Lynx (VHLM) FAVORITE PLAYER: Anton Brekker (Davos Dynamo) FAVORITE ARTIST: Drake FAVORITE MOVIES: Inception, Harry Potter, Interstellar, Lord of the Rings, Batman Trilogy FAVORITE TV SHOWS: Saturday Night Live, Big Brother, Survivor, House MD, Game of Thrones FAVORITE BOOK: The Hunger Games FAVORITE FOOD: Pizza SCOUTING REPORT Pros: Quick Release - Not only does Kendrick possess accuracy, but also has mastered the quick release that many players are trying to emulate. Scouts believe that his wrist shot is VHL ready, and won't have any difficulties transitioning over to the VHL. At the Junior A all star game back in Kendrick's hometown, he was bestowed with the honors as most accurate shooter after smashing through 4 plates in record setting time. Skating - Before being drafted into the VHLM, Kendrick was generally regarded as the best non-professional skater in the country. Whether or not he keeps this up will be up to his will and determination, which scouts believe should not be difficult. VHL teams should be looking at him as a definite top 5 draft choice based on his speed and acceleration alone. Character - Off and on the ice Kendrick is viewed as a leader not only for his team, but the community of his home town as well where he is highly involved. In addition to making weekly hospital visits, Kendrick has donated a quarter of his contract annually ever since becoming a professional athlete. If the current draft class has equally talented first round picks, scouts believe Kendrick should be drafted higher in the ranks based on his reliable character. Cons: Questionable player agent - Kendrick has the potential to become a VHL all star given the strengths of his game and work ethic; however, teams may be wary of drafting him based on the erratic history of his player agent who has a rocky history with some current clubs. Harvey Singh, who represents Cole, was a draftee in the 12th season of the VHL. Defense - Teams looking at picking up Kendrick should have a stellar defense system in play given the poor nature of his defensive responsibility. He is often found out of position in the defensive end, and has a poor back check. Coaches in the VHL may want to give him an additional season in the VHLM to smooth out those kinks in his game. Physical Play- Case in point, Kendrick needs to better utilize his size. He possesses the body of a classic power forward, but is afraid to get in the dirty areas and generally plays off the perimeter. NOTES Much like the majority of kids his age, Kendrick Cole has an enormous amount of potential if he can round out some rough patches in his playing repertoire. His strengths in offensive ability considerably outweighs the weaknesses in the game, and teams in the VHL will not hesitate to select him with a first rounder. The VHL's 48th draft is continually evolving into a very strong class, and as a group will have no problems taking the league by storm.
