RavenSkill Development Training Camp Recap:

Presented By Lucas Tallinder and Elias Kallstrom

RavenSkill Development has undergone major improvements in the past few weeks. Three players were added to the roster, including our first two goalies. On top of this, we have introduced training camp sims as part of our initiative to increase the volume of content provided to our fans. Through all of these renovations, we are simply just happy to have seen everyone back at our facilities in Stockholm these past few days.

We began camp with our regular training regimen, and we sat down with each player individually to discuss their goals for the upcoming season and how they plan to achieve them. We actually didn’t even touch the ice for the first two days, and focused more on developing specialized training/meal plans for each player. After that was finished, we began on-ice training with head coach Elias Kallstrom.

I have to say, I was really impressed with Onde Sandstrom’s development since the last time he was in Stockholm with us. The talent was always there, and he now looks more confident than ever following a tremendous 102 point season with the Wolves. Tyler Reinhart has undoubtedly lived up to all of the hype surrounding his name, and he has shown a lot of willingness to learn from a guy like Red Lite who was in a similar spotlight when he was in his draft season. Chris Reynolds was the first player to show up to camp, showing that his work ethic is still unmatched even when he has already established himself as an elite player. Everyone’s work ethic and execution on the drills was great, and you could tell they were even more excited to get going for the scrimmages.

Scrimmages — Team Black vs. Team White

We played four games as a fun part of our training camp, and it was a good way to get the competitive juices flowing again ahead of their VHL/VHLM seasons. The teams split the series 2-2, with some standout performances from many different players. I’ll take the rest of this article to summarize some of the biggest storylines from each game.

GAME 1 — White defeats Black 6-2
Instant chemistry between Rose and Elsby
Each producing 3 points in the first game of the series, James Rose and Spencer Elsby rose to the occasion and immediately put Team White on their backs. They played remarkably well together, dominating in all three zones for the duration of the game.

Impressive showing from Gumballs
Despite a disappointing start for team Black, no blame could be placed on defender Jiggly Gumballs. With a goal, 4 hits and 2 shots, it was clear that he was here to compete. He has always been very well-respected as a defensive defenseman in the VHL, and he displayed his value on both sides of the rink in that game.

GAME 2 — White defeats Black 3-2
Reinhart competing hard
This was a really good sign for the young Tyler Reinhart, who was seemingly all over the ice for the duration of that game. He ended the match with an assist and 3 hits, showing his willingness to play a heavy game and make effective plays with the puck.

Dimmadome opens series with 2 straight wins
The owner of the Dimmsdale Dimmadome held down the fort for the first two games, letting in only 2 goals in both games. It’s clear that he is one of the top goalies in the world when you watch him; He just slows the game down and makes everything look easy.

GAME 3 — Black defeats White 2-0
Sales shuts the door
The only shutout of camp goes to our newest client, Thadius Sales. He showed exemplary technical ability and read the play extremely well, leaving everyone thoroughly impressed. We look forward to building further upon his abilities, because his foundation is impeccable.

Letang with an electric performance
The only defenseman we have not talked about to this point has been Alex Letang, but he is certainly not to be forgotten among the stars at this camp. He came through with a brilliant performance in game 3, complete with a goal, 6 hits, 3 shots and 2 shots blocked. He was a huge reason for Team Black’s success in this game.

GAME 4 — Black defeats White 4-1
Sandstrom and Reynolds playing to win
Combining for 9 hits and 6 shots, Sandstrom and Reynolds were making sure that Black took this one home to close the series as a draw. They also put up a collective 3 points on the way to a 4-1 win. The pair of S74 draftees looked great out there, and you can tell why they’re so successful on their respective VHL teams.

Conclusion

It’s always fun to have everyone in Sweden for the offseason, and these scrimmages made everything even more enjoyable. Keep your eyes peeled for new RavenSkill content this season, and we’ll see you again next season!
