Greg_Di 1,030
When Greg Eagles hung up his skates after a solid 8 seasons as a goalie in the VHL, he decided that MMA would be the place to continue his career. After an impressive 6-2 run in MMA, Greg Eagles is back in the VHL but with a new role. It was announced yesterday by the GM of the Wranglers @Ricer13 that Greg Eagles has been announced as the AGM of his sons, Tom Eagles, Calgary Wranglers. Greg has some big shoes to fill for the outgoing AGM @Patrik Tallinder. "Patrik has done great things as an AGM for the Wranglers and it is definitely going to be tough to replace him" said Greg " I do have until the rest of the season to learn as much as I can from him and hopefully I will be able to help out the Wranglers as he has. For me, I want this season to be a learning season for me and next season I can start to get my hands a little more dirty and helping out the GM with the day to day" Greg steps into the role as Calgary is making a playoff push. His first 2 games as AGM did not go as planned though. Being tasked with setting up the lines and strategies for the games against Seattle and Vancouver, it ended in disaster. The Wranglers lost 6-2 to the Bears and then 3-1 to the last place Wolves. "I don't know what went wrong, maybe I didn't get the proper lineup out or changed to much of the strategies and the players couldn't adapt so soon" Greg said " I had many huge games as a player and many upsets as well, but these 2 first games probably felt the worst. Losing these 2 games knocked us out of a playoff spot and I feel a sense of responsibility for that. I am hoping that the next few games go better. We have an amazing team here and we had some nice additions over the last few days that should push us over the top" Tom Eagles was also excited to see his dad as the AGM of the Wranglers. Many are wondering if this was a move to keep Tom on the Wranglers for the rest of his career. " I don't think that was the reason Greg was hired, he has lots of experience as a player playing on championship teams and has a lot of experience that he can bring to the table" Tom Said " I know it might be a little learning curve before his at 100% but he has the right team around him to succeed. The Wranglers management are hoping Greg's experience can rub off on the younger core on what it takes to win a championship and they are also hoping he can light a fire under Tom who has been struggling this season. With 17 games left for the Wranglers, they have to be playing at their best as the race for the final playoff spot has been a very tight one. 4 teams are separated by just 2 points for the final spot. We also asked Greg about his MMA career and if he still intends to do that or if he is retiring to focus solely on his AGM role. " Yeah, whenever matches are scheduled I still intend to compete. Lately there haven't been any fights due to some scheduling conflicts so I decided to take something else on. Right now I will be more focused on my AGM role and the MMA more as a hobby. I want to bring a cup to Calgary and it will be great to do it with Tom on the team. I think the building blocks are here to go on a run and that's why I will be focusing a lot more on this role then my MMA career" Edited June 15, 2021 by Greg_Di JardyB10, Patrik Tallinder and Ricer13 1 2 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/104766-greg-eagles-is-back/ Share on other sites
