Greg_Di 1,028
The season is done and the Wranglers are preparing for their first Wildcard game tomorrow night against the DC Dragons. It should be a good, hard fought series. The mood in the Wranglers locker room is one of optimism as they didn't think they would be in a wildcard spot. They were planning on securing an actual spot but this gives them the opportunity to prove to everyone that they placed lower then they should have. One key story line heading into the wild card is the hot play of Tom Eagles in the last 20 or so games of the season. After having a poor start for the first 60 games, Tom has really stepped it up late in the second half. So much that he set a new career high with 15 goals. He still came up short for career high in points which was 60 in season 77. This season he only managed 54 but his improved offensive play has really helped his team. Tom has not been known as a scorer throughout his career but he told everyone that this season he will train specifically in his offensive game. While this training may have thrown him off for most of the season, it ended up paying off in the end as he kept popping goals into the back of the net once the training finished late into the season. "It's great to see training pay off and being able to help the team out. I am excited for the playoffs and I can finally show my true form " Tom said " My defensive game I already had down pat, offense was always lacking and now I believe I am a threat at both ends. Everyone will get to finally see what I have worked on and I think there will be quite a few surprised faces" If the last few games are anything to go buy, opposing teams can expect Tom to fire more shots on the net and be more of an offensive threat on the power-play. Tom has been given more opportunities on the main power play unit and this has produced 10 goals. The team has setup specific plays for Tom which has helped him to get into the right positions and fire off his shots. It has been interesting to see him get more involved and have more confidence in his shot this season. If what Tom says is true, could set him up for an amazing season next season. It coincidentally will also be his contract season and if he sets career high this could set him up for a big payday and a contract that would take him into his retirement. While there has been no talk from management or Tom about his future plans, everyone knows that talks should begin either before the start of next season or when next season is over. Tom has always said that he would not talk contract while a season is ongoing due to possible distractions. Prout 373
WOOOOOO about time you start getting some results! review; I think you need to hype yourself up a bit especially being a key part of the Wranglers team you need to be more vocal on your progress. I think the storyline for Eagles has been fun to follow. Keep writing these as we continue to watch his success And development Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/107642-eagles-sets-career-high-for-goals/#findComment-869546 Share on other sites
MetalToday 266
I think the success for Calgary to come from a low spot in the standings to a playoff spot is one thing to focus on a little more in an article such as this. When it comes to the team, I would also love to hear about players, possible Tom, who may have been at least nominated for some trophies, considering the team came form a rough start, to a decent playoff position. I see Tom being one of the better players from what I read in this article and it seems like he will likely have a good future for upcoming seasons. This makes me interested on seeing Tom Eagles future in the VHL. I give it an 8/10 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/107642-eagles-sets-career-high-for-goals/#findComment-870582 Share on other sites
Kisslinger 376
9/10 Love that you added a photo, photos are always nice to look at, especially since it's Calgary's arena, makes it relate even more to the article. Article is super clean and looks good, the only thing I would suggest is maybe indenting the paragraphs to make it look a little cleaner, but the article is super interesting. I am happy tom found his groove at the end of the season and starting performing like he said he would! Hopefully tom gets a big pay day next season for all his hard work!
