ECN “VHL Now!”
Episode 1 “The show is back!”

After a few seasons (Well, actually quite a few seasons) the show that was once a prime media spot coverage of VHL is back. We are going to be again discussing VHL, standings, players, who is shining and who is slacking, also we will be looking at some interesting situations that have unfolded and trades! Isn’t that quite a lot to talk about in our first back-in-action article? No matter! We are European Cable News hosted by Frostbeard Entertainment, led by our editor-in-chief John Frostbeard, we are providing content for everybody!

Let’s start off by looking at VHL overall, the best teams, scorers, goaltenders and more!

Some teams are truly on fire! Vancouver Wolves are absolutely dominating their opposition with 16 wins in 19 games played. They are the best team in the whole league right now, with only Malmo stepping on their toes. With Vancouver leading the NA Conference, Malmo has almost free reign over the EU Conference and that shows. The Nighthawks have been great and are sitting with 15 wins in 19 games played. Right now, we can already see that there are 3 teams in the VHL that are well above their opposition - Wolves, Nighthawks and Menace. There are however quite a few sleeper teams that could rise in the standings any day now - Chicago and Calgary are prime examples for that in the NA. They have really strong rosters and highly skilled players that just need to take that extra step. In the EU I believe that Davos, Prague and Riga have the chance to stun the whole league if they get their play together and are able to find their rhythm.

VHL star Gunnar Odinsson has been unstoppable again and has 41 points in 19 games played, he is playing the best hockey we have seen in a while with both goalscoring and playmaking ability developed at an elite level, you can expect that we will be again giving Gunnar a stack of trophies next off-season. Prague players have been showing a lot of potential and teamplay lately and it can be seen in the point totals -  Robert Bouchard, Nicholas Mariani and both in Top 10 scoring, Venus Thightrap has managed to squeeze into Top 10 goalscorer list. It will be interesting to see how well these players are going to sustain their level of play as hockey seasons are about longevity and ability to perform day in and day out. An important player to note is NY Americans Red Lite. With NY becoming an important team in NA, they have also been relying more and more on their true star power forward Red Lite and it shows on the statistics board. With 17 goals in 20 games played he sits at the third place on goalscorer list and also has been the most effective powerplay specialist in the league with 8 goals. When it comes to the EU Conference, Duncan Idaho has been showing more and more of his star potential and has been the brightest star on the Moscow roster. With 3 hat-tricks and numerous important plays, he has managed to put Moscow in a position where everyone has to prepare a little bit more when they are about to face Menace.

The VHL season has also brought us more boxing matches and some of those boxers are really, really good! Look at Jared Carter of Toronto Legion - in 18 games played he has managed to get into 2 fights and win both of them, a heavy hitting forward who has been  an absolutely physical beast for Toronto. Frank Funk Jr. hasn’t been that lucky. Frank managed to get into 3 fights this season and while winning only one, he has tied two other fights. At least that is a lot better than some of other comrades like Gunnar Odinsson, Chris Reynolds and Tyler Walker who all have gotten into a single fight each and have lost them. Quite embarrassing isn’t it?

Well, for this week’s VHL Now! We have to wrap up! Next week we will return (hopefully)!

Review: 10/10

Fun roundup! Especially as somebody who's been paying more attention to the VHLE than the VHL this season, I really enjoyed this one to get me up to speed quickly about the goings-on in the league. I'd definitely recommend it to newer members to get a lay of the land. The presentation of this piece was excellent, with the proper noun bolding and even the custom graphic at the top. (Though I'm maybe not as enthused with everything being italicized, but I know that's a style choice.) The article flowed well also. If there's any sort of nitpick, I suppose it's more of a variety in the topics (I was promised goalies!), but especially if you're looking to do this weekly, I know there's a balance between fitting this in and not making it like 1500 words. All in all an excellent piece here, hope you do keep it up!
