Dough matchett started playing hockey when he was 15 years old. He was very late to the game but, he’s been proving he can still compete even at the age of 37. He didn’t start taking hockey seriously until just a year or two ago. His original goal was to race with the big guys. A horrible wreck is what sent him to hockey a much less dangerous sport. He was top of his division but one brutal mistake took him completely out of racing.

Matchett was an exceptional hockey player putting up points and playing stellar defence. HIs size put fear into his opposition. He played for his local junior B team the Wolfpack having a total of 24 games played and 5 goals and 30 assists. He only played 24 games due to a pandemic shortened season and that’s when he decided he would declare for the VHL.

with Matchetts size his speed and agility were huge questions. Even when he was playing in junior B it was an issue. He’s been training and conditioning himself to get up to the speed of the big leagues and he hopes to make an impact at this level. His discipline also was question as he led his team in PIMS averaging over 4 minutes per game, he was very hotheaded but now states he has his temper under control and it should not be an issue. So far this season he is right his temper has not been an issue at all.

when he decided to join the VHLM he knew which team he wanted to join. The team that had a hot start to the season, Las Vegas. He held out until he got the offer he wanted and he got it.

through 28 games he only has 10 points but he has been a rock on the blue line. Laying the body and has a +5 on the season. Currently projected to go in the early 30’s he hopes to impress teams enough to take him at a higher position.

This player is a defensive presence that can help out offensively from time to time. His offence will become much better as time goes on and so will his defensive game. This season he was hoping to show how well he can play in his own end and it is very clear he has done that. With this being is first season we wonder what else he will do in his career.
