Recommended Posts

The VHLM was able to catch up with rookie San Diego Marlins forward Justin Adolfsen to talk hockey, other sports, and what he likes to do in his off time. Currently Justin Adolfsen is playing his first season of VHLM hockey and is already impressing with a stat line of 10 goals and 12 assists in 17 games thus far. It’s no surprise that the San Diego Marlins are rebuilding, but its given rookies like Justin an increase in ice time which is only benefiting him. Below is our exclusive interview with rookie forward Justin Adolfsen

Reporter: Justin, despite this season not going as planned in terms of wins, how are you acclimating to VHLM play, and what’s your favorite part so far?

JA: As soon as I stepped on the ice for my first game, I felt an adrenaline rush. Every time I step out there on the rink, I feel more and more comfortable. I am happy to be playing on a line with Ivan Retoslav @eagle_3450 and Landon Wolanin @jacobcarson877 and we are finding great success together. My favorite part so far is getting the opportunity on the power play and being with the boys in the locker-room. They have taken me in under their wing and it’s a great group we got here.

Reporter: Awesome, love to hear that! What was your reaction to being drafted 27th overall and how has your relationship been with General Manager Frank?

JA- I was pretty much in tears when I heard my named called in the draft. I was with my family and you could see it on their faces that they were so proud of me. It wasn’t easy getting to this stage, I can tell you that, and they all knew it. Once I was drafted Frank @Frank contacted me straight away and he has been a great mentor to me throughout the season so far. He trusts me as a player, and I think I am showing that I deserve the ice time I have been getting.

Reporter: What have the coaches been telling you about what they want to see from you in your first game and during the rest of the season?

JA: They just want me to continue doing what I´ve done so far. The coaches have been appreciating my creativity, my skills and speed. But the one thing that I believe that they’ve been liking the most is my competitiveness - that I always want to win. I don’t think they want me to change anything, it´s just for me to go out there and prove that I belong and show them that I want to stick around for the whole season.

Reporter: While we know you love hockey; are there any other sports you follow or watch?

JA: Yes, I actually love NASCAR. Growing up my grandpa owned a stock car and would have my dad race it around at my local short track. I would always say if I wasn’t a hockey player, I’d probably want to be a NASCAR driver. I also closely follow soccer as well - go Man U haha.

Reporter: When you aren’t on the rink practicing or playing, what do you usually do in your free time?

JA- Honestly, I don’t do much haha. I’ll hang with my friends or teammates or get a bite to eat. I try and see my family when I am not on the road. Also I will watch some Netflix or HULU.

Reporter: What shows do you watch on Netflix?

JA- I have been watching Ozark, but now I am on Game of Thrones.

Reporter: Final question Justin. Where do you see your play style improving the most?

JA- Well I’ve always modeled my offensive game at a high standard. Not being the biggest person, I love to improve my defensive play and be a little cleaner in our D zone. I think this year I am seeing improvements already, but that’s where Id like to improve right now.

Reporter: Alright Justin thanks for your time, and good luck the rest of the season! Thank you

JA- Thank you

It should come as no surprise that you put together a great Media Spot. You talked about a series of VHL related, and fun personal questions. All of your answers were written in a natural and conversational manner. I appreciated the use of colour to distinguish the Interviewer and the Interviewee. Starting it off with a short and sweet preamble helped to contextualize the piece. On a personal note it has been great playing with you so far, and it’s been awesome watching you thrive in San Diego. Lets go Marlins! 9/10

9/10

Great article! Let’s start with what was done super well. I really like the colour change when you are being interviewed! I think your spelling and grammar is well done! What you could do for the next media spot is add a picture at the top and it would make the format look a little bit more clean!
Good luck on your season!
