S82 VHLM First Featured Game

We are 130 games into the season in the VHLM, and it is time to do a little bit of a recap and talk about our first Featured Game of Season 82 in the VHLM!

Our First Featured Game of Season 82 in the VHLM is of course the first game of the season in the VHLM. A match between the Halifax 21st and the Philadelphia Reapers. The Halifax 21st visited Philadelphia to face the Reapers in what we call the first lopsided game of the season! A game in which the Philadelphia Reapers crushed the Halifax 21st with a 5 - 1 victory, much to the delight of the home crowd.

The first period opened with a quick goal by Curtis Crumb @Crummer77 just 1:36 into the game. This is the first shot of the game, the first shot of Season 82, the first goal of the game, and the first goal of the season in the VHLM in Season 82. And this must have been an exhilarating moment for the young defenseman, who is playing his first game for Philadelphia against his former Season 81 team in the Halifax 21st! Gus Bentley @boatsinking123 scored the second goal of the game at 6:00 into the first, giving the Reapers a 2 - 0 lead against the 21st. Philly leads 2 - 0 after one (period) out shooting Halifax 10 to 7. Philly had 2 power plays, Halifax with one. Neither team scored on the power play in the first period.

Philadelphia Reapers took over the game in the Second period. @Azjha_59 Sam Azjha's early penalty was a costly one 2:22 into the second period. Alf Larsson @ng1291 scored their 1st of the season for the Reapers as the Reapers extend their lead to 3 - 0 on the power play. The Reapers had total control of the game at that point, as Halifax goaltender ChickenLittle @LiningPolecat stood on their head to keep the 21st in the game. The Reapers had massive pressure for the entire period except for (Alf) Larsson's Interference Minor, finally broke through in the last minute of play in the period on the Reapers' 5th Power Play of the game. Dylan Powers @dpowers49 scored the Reapers' 2nd power play marker of the night with 31 seconds left in the second period giving Philadelphia a commanding 4 - 0 lead heading into the third period. Philadelphia out shot Halifax 21 to 6 in the period.

Now you must love the never give up mentality. Halifax's top guns certainly thought about it, as the 21st's stars Cooper Skambraks @CSkams15 and Doug Matchett @jacobaa19 worked hard together to score Halifax's 1st goal of the season 4:04 into the third period to stage the comeback, making the game 4 - 1. And the comeback begins! Ha, who am I kidding? The 21st shot themselves in the foot as they took four straight penalties in the period, which essentially took away any scoring chances and momentum they might have garnered from their early third period goal. In fact, the Philadelphia Reapers gave the 21st no room to breathe as they took their game to another level and bombarded ChickenLittle with 20 more shots in the period, finally solving the peppered goaltender at the end of the Reapers' fourth power play of the third period. Jarno Lappi @aksuko scored for the Reapers at 17:30 on the power play to make the game 5 - 1. The game ended 5 - 1 with the Reapers Win. Philadelphia had one of the most impressive periods in hockey in a long time, out shooting the 21st 20 to 2 in the third period. An overwhelming victory and an equally amazing shot total as Philly outshot Halifax 51 to 15 in the game.

ChickenLittle made 46 of 51 saves in the loss, as Red Gaming @Lilpfigher had an easy quiet night, stopping 14 of 15 shots in the win.
