VHL Bot Dream Team

Bot players are always outcasts. No one wants to have to play them, yet sometimes it’s required to send them out on the ice. I wanted to take this theme week opportunity to shine a light on this necessary evil, our underappreciated bots. Here is my VHL Bot Dream Team.

DAV C – The search for the greatest bot of all time starts and ends with DAV C. DAV C owns 3 of the top 8 most bot points in a season ranks, including the top two slots.

A couple funny things about this:

1) The most points ever scored by a bot in a season is 27.

2) None of DAV C’s top season were on Davos. In fact, their best season on Davos was season 18, where they scored 5 points.

Still there is no way around it, DAV C is the best bot ever to strap on the skates and is the centerpiece of the VHL Bot Dream Team.

COL LW3 – This might be the most controversial selection to the Bot Dream Team. COL LW3 only had one noteworthy season, Season 56. But it is the best season ever for a bot LW. Showing that level of flash, even once, is enough to get you on the Bot Dream Team. I know I’ll probably get hate mail from SEA fans, because SEA LW probably should have this spot because of their Season 18 & 19 performances, but the problem is the records show more than one SEA LW for Season 18, so I’m not sure what to do about that. The cleaner COL LW3 gets the nod.

DAV RW2 – To round out the forwards, I wanted a power forward who could throw their weight around and contribute offensively as well. DAV RW2 fit that bill, having a couple seasons where they tallied some points and dished out some hit. Unlike their namesake, DAV C, DAV RW2 actually had these good season for Davos.

CAL D2 – While CAL D2 can’t lay claim to the most points by a bot defenseman in a season, that goes to his counterpart CAL D4, who scored 22 points for Calgary in season 20, CAL D2 has had a much more consistent career.

Check out this consistency:

Alex Rawnsley – That’s right! Bots used to have names. Bot Alex gets the nod here because they are the iron man of bots, owning the top two spots for most minutes played by a bot in a season. That includes a season where they averaged over 31 minutes per game! My Dream Team needs the kind of player who will never tire out.

Check out these stats from all their seasons where they played over 1,500 minutes:

Reserve players:

I wanted to give special notice to these players, who came close to making the squad, but just missed.

HEL D3 – HEL D3 makes the squad because they are one of two bots to ever have won 2 fights in the same season. We’ll need that type of toughness. For those wondering, DAV RW1 was the other bot who won 2 fights in a season.

HSK RW – This guy had a season where they had 5 goals on 18 shots. That’s a 27.78% shooting percentage. A sharpshooter like that could really help the team out.

DAV LW3 – DAV LW3 has the all-time highest game winning goals in a season for bots with 3. That level of clutch performance is enough to make the reserve list.
