Who Is the Stanley Cup Named After?

Saskatoon Founders Cup Champions!

After a long season filled with high hopes and dreams, the Saskatoon Wild have finally done it. They’ve once again won another Founders Cup in the VHLM. But this winning season was different from others, this team overcame many obstacles and challenges throughout the journey.

It all started at the end of Season 81, where the Wild finished near bottom in the standings with only 55 points. Placing them 7/10 in the league record wise. It became clear to the management that they were in a rebuilding phase. Saskatoon started trading some of their top guys for draft picks in return. It seemed like this team wouldn’t be too competitive come next season.

When it came time for Season 82, the Saskatoon Wild was surprisingly stacked with great young rookies up and down the lineup. With sensations like Jeff Buffy, Brian Kowalski and Kyou Fujibayashi at the helm of the roster. It was not too long before Napoleon Dynamite and Pierre Emile Bouchard joined the team signing as free agents, both of whom were vital contributors in the playoffs.

The Saskatoon Wild finished with 53 wins and 19 losses, totaling out at 107 points for the team, which was almost double their point total in Season 81. There were a variety of different things that contributed to such success. But most importantly was having a solid goaltender in Augustus Kennedy while having an All Star defense backing him up. But this was just the start of a miraculous journey for this Saskatoon team. On came the playoffs, where the Saskatoon Wild took out the Miami Marauders and the Philadelphia Reapers both in six games. The hardest challenge came in the Founders Cup Finals though, when the Saskatoon Wild were down 3-1 to the mighty Houston Bulls. Although this was the case, the Wild clawed back winning two games in a row to force a game seven. And then go onto eventually win 6-3 in amazing fashion, crowning the Saskatoon Wild the Founders Cup.

But the winning of the Founders Cup wouldn’t be without the standout players on the Saskatoon team. Minou Lambert went crazy this season, bringing in 122 points for the team that season and was criminally underrated by many despite his performance. Ryan was also a stand out star in the Wild organization, scoring 83 points in the regular season. Not only that, he scored 28 points in just 19 games in the playoffs. Both of these players were key contributors to the team, in both the regular season and in the playoffs. Sadly, both of them are headed to the ‘E next season. But I look forward to seeing them succeed out on the ice.

Overall, it was a successful season for our Saskatoon team. We came into the season knowing we had something to prove, and we gave it our all to finally bring the cup back to Saskatoon. I’m looking forward to Season 83 as Saskatoon’s GM. Who knows? Maybe Saskatoon can go win back to back?
