Think about how easy this would be to cheese by just swapping 4ths with everyone else until you hit the 5-trade mark.

 

Also--already having built a good team is noteworthy by itself. I don't see how making a lot of trades every season is inherently better than not (unless the team is just spiraling out of control and the GM is doing nothing about it).

It should be the opposite, there should be a discount on cap hit for players drafted by said franchise. 

 

Honestly should be a thing irl, teams shouldn't be punished for drafting well.

That would be kind of a unique "challenge" for GMs. Something like a 5% reduction per 2 years with the franchise uninterrupted as a "retention" bonus or something.

Frankly, 5% is nothing. Even 20% is just 1.1M on a min. 900+ TPA contract

Pulling an NBA salary thing here, but Bird Rights would be neat, difficult to implement probably. Pretty much lets you go over the cap to sign a player if they have been with your team for 4 or more seasons
