DollarAndADream 3,356
VHL's Best Seasons This week in the VHL we are showcasing the history of the league. Approaching the 40th Season in the VHL, the league has had it's fair share of legendary players. Some of these players are even still around to this day, active around the league. Within these first 39 seasons, there have been historical happenings on individual stats. Being elite in the VHL is not an easy task to accomplish, yet sometimes there are just some who outshine the others by far. With this, I bring to you the Top 5 Points in a Season Records. ----------------------------- ----------------------------- 1. Scotty Campbell: (1)190 Points, (2)174 Points Scotty Campbell was a centerman who came out of Davos, Switzerland. He was as dynamic a player as you can come by. There never seemed to be any area of the ice where he did not excel. Being around in the early days of the VHL, he set the standard of a top player in the league. He was the Wayne Gretzky of that era, representing the best of the best. Though it should not come by a surprise, he holds 4 of the top 10 spots on the all time points in a season list. He was Sidney Crosby of today, the best player in the game. This superstar has a shelf overflowing with awards, and numerous records in the books. He was consistent as ever in producing for the teams he was a part of and an easy example of what a legend truly is. 2. Brett Slobodzian: 171 Points This record was one that was set in the first ever season of the VHL. Slobodzian was a member of Calgary when they were as dominant as one could imagine. He was one of the most dominant right wingers in the VHL before his early retirement. Slick passing, an amazing shot and a great skater was the definition of Brett Slobodzian. In Season 1, there were no records at all. Nobody knew what to expect from anybody. Brett stole the show in the premiere season, making the mark for the milestone to beat in the VHL. Getting up to this point in numbers is not common anymore in today's game, so this Calgarian has a number to be proud of. 3. Alex McNeil: 162 Points Alex was a member of the Seattle team when he had this magnificent season. Starting out as a defenseman in the league on the blue line, McNeil would eventually become one of the highest talents ever at the forward position. Being overlooked early on, he shined bright proving all of his doubters wrong. He transitioned to the center slot and was shortly viewed as one of the best in the game. Alex played a hard-nosed style of hockey, and was always physical. He never shied away from finishing a check and was always providing energy on the ice. Alex McNeil went down in history as one of the premiere two-way players and a gritty one at that. ---------------------------- ---------------------------- 4. Mike Szatkowski: 159 Points Szatkowski was a big, strong centerman hailing from Buffalo in the United States of America. He is known as one of, if not the best American to ever play in the VHL. Mike never failed to produce among the top stars in the league within his tenure in the VHL. He was always consistent on the ice and a great teammate in the locker room. This American is easily one of the best players that the VHL has ever had. Any team that he joined, he became their best player. The USA had made their mark in the VHL with one of the best. 5. Kevin Brooks: 157 Points Kevin Brooks was a true superstar throughout his duration in the VHL. Coming out of Westbrook, USA he was yet another American to leave a huge mark in the league. During his time in the VHL, there was no one who could match this centerman's skill. He could take over games with ease if he chose to, which is was unmatched at the time. With his tremendous work ethic, he was and is a legendary icon to look up to for any player at any point of their career. Kevin Brooks' career was outstanding and easily one for the ages. With all said and done, the players of today have plenty of hall of famers to look up to if they need answers. These are only the top 5 best seasons point-wise, and there have been many more memorable seasons in this league. It is questionable whether or not anyone will ever triumph over these records, but just that was another age. Just like Wayne Gretzky of the NHL, these players had a talent like no other. Da Trifecta 1,899
Content: 3/3 Pretty nice write up. It's nice to see who scored the most points. Obviously it's a lot harder in these days than it used to be. Wonder if someone from today's era could crack the top 5. Grammar: 2/2 Nothing noteworthy Appearance: 1/1 Final: 6/6 (doubled 12/12) Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/12304-claimedtop-5-points-in-a-season-players/#findComment-122496 Share on other sites
Admin Victor 10,940 Posted September 20, 2014 Admin Share Posted September 20, 2014 Fuck yes, good research. Kind of depressing there is no one later than Season 10. Or maybe that's a good thing. Actually I thought Wozniak or Reikkinen had made it. Maybe just top 10. Actually I thought Wozniak or Reikkinen had made it. Maybe just top 10. I was going to do Top 10 Rookie Seasons at first, because then I could feature myself. I decided to go to unselfish route and do Best Single Seasons though.
