I'd probably say it's not your first time with photoshop (or whatever program you are using), because there are a lot of solid techniques used that first-timers just don't do. Overall its a cool look with the cutout of Australia and the flag. I like the signature addition, that's cool. The render looks nice. The text looks good, and the gradiant added. Overall, just really solid. I think even with the showing you did, it'll look good regardless of what background colour for the forum it is on.
