Good day/night Storm fans and the VHL community, right now we will be recognizing the positives of Season 84 for the Storm. Although we did not qualify for playoffs this season, next season is a clean slate, with some really promising prospects joining up, and some players via the draft. Before we start, I want to say congrats to the champions of the VHLE, the Istanbul Red Wolves (and former Oslo captain Cobalt Burns) as well as the Las Vegas Aces of the VHLM and the Warsaw Predators (and former Oslo goalie Wumbo) of the VHL. Time for awards to close out Season 84 in style!

Season 84 Oslo Storm Awards Presentation

2nd seasonal show

🌬️ Wind Storm Award (Top Prospect(s)): This offseason Storm fans have several prospects to get excited about, but for the sake of this award we will name a maximum of three. First the candidates (all those over the VHLM cap of 200 TPE):

  • LW Jon Webber Jr, Philadelphia Reapers: 49 G, 48 A, 97 P, 292 TPE
  • C Todd Cooke, Houston Bulls: 43 G, 45 A, 88 P, 288 TPE
  • C Lorenzo Cobberson, Mississauga Hounds: 38 G, 50 A, 88 P, 207 TPE
  • C Akio Suzuki, Mississauga Hounds: 36 G, 30 A, 66 P, 236 TPE
  • D Brodie Landry III, Halifax 21st: 16 G, 65 A, 81 P, 228 TPE

This season we'll name three winners. Two were captain of their respective teams, and they all played integral roles in those teams' successes. I am stoked to have them play for Oslo next season, as I am for all the Oslo prospects, the winners are:

Spoiler

Jon Webber Jr, Todd Cooke and Lorenzo Cobberson! Congrats to @Webberj, @l1l KRZY l9l and @Hendrix Cobberson

🌧️🏒 Shower of Pucks Award (Most Goals): Oslo's leading goal scorer this season lit the lamp 38 times in 64 games since joining the team as a free agent. The winner of the Season 84 Shower of Pucks Award is:

Spoiler

Arthur Kimura! Congrats @FBR!

:sunglasses: Sharing the Sun Award (Most Assists): As Oslo does not get nearly as much sunlight as some other places, it's vital to embrace the sun just like it is to embrace scoring chances. In a lot of cases, that means that players have to set up teammates instead of taking the shot themselves. This player did just that all season long here in Oslo, notching 57 assists. The award goes to:

Spoiler

Matt Rooster! Congrats @hcrooster96!

🚨 Striker Award (Top Point Producer): Just like Storms have lightning strikes, so too do the Storm. This player had 80 points this season. We wish them well in retirement. This season's top striker is:

Spoiler

Jeremy Davidson! Congrats @jpdavidson8787!

🌠 Shooting Star Award (Top Shooting Percentage): Scoring on 9.18% of their 414 shots, this player never failed to capitalize on scoring chances, high quality or not. The Shooting Star of Season 84 for the Oslo Storm is:

Spoiler

Arthur Kimura! Congrats again!

😎 🏙️ Cool as an Oslo Day Award (Most Game-Winning Goals): An award being introduced this season, it goes to the player who came in clutch most often; time and time again. They scored six times to win a game for the Storm this season, not in any particular fashion. The first player to be cool as a day in Oslo is (have a guess based on the font color?):

Spoiler

Nicholas Blue! Congrats @lidz!

⛈️ Thunder Award (Most Hits; Best Physical Presence): This player's physical part of their game paid dividends. Not only did they lead the team with 228 hits, they used it to score 25-29-54 totals. One would think the more the hits, the more the penalty minutes. However, although this player was 7th league-wide in PIM (110), there was a noticeable dropoff in that category from the top three. Anyways, this season's Thunder Award goes to:

Spoiler

Nicholas Blue! Congrats again lidz!

☔ Umbrella Award (Top Defensive Performance): Similar to how umbrellas act as shields in storms, this player acted as one for the Storm this season. Blocking not only the most shots on Oslo and the most in the league (268), they actually set a record for most blocked ever in a single season in the VHLE. The previous record holder, Jannik Nylen, blocked 235 in Season 80 with the Bratislava Watchmen. This Storm player could always be counted on in the defensive zone (as well as the offensive). The winner is:

Spoiler

Nicholas Blue! Way to go again lidz, third in a row!

🌩️ 🧤 Lightning Glove Award (Top Goalie): No surprises here, there is only one person this can go to, and deservedly so. With only one human defender, this goalie still won 23 games, posted a very solid .929 save percentage as well as a 3.04 GAA, and two shutouts, an Oslo single-season record. Looking forward to another season of them in net with more defensive help. The winner is:

Spoiler

Sam Tombstone! Congrats @samthemancub!

👁️‍🗨️ :osl: Eye of the Storm Award (MVP): Not only does on-ice play matter for this award, but off-ice activity as well as contribution to the league does too. This player meant a lot to the Storm organization this season, which was admittedly a rough campaign. They were positive in the locker room, did great on the ice, and even got an assistant general manager position with the Cologne Express. This season's Oslo Storm MVP is:

Spoiler

Sam Tombstone! Congrats again Sam!

⭐ ⭐ ⭐ 3 Stars of the Season ⭐ Sam Tombstone (23 W, .929 SV%, 3.04 GAA, 2 SO) ⭐⭐ Nicholas Blue (25 G, 29 A, 54 P) ⭐⭐⭐ Chip Stone (15 G, 23 A, 38 P)*

*Stone played 55 games before being traded at the deadline to Cologne.

Thanks to all of you for your efforts this season; I'm looking forward to a fun-filled Season 85 when we shall (hopefully) emerge from our retool! And anyone, feel free to drop in to the Oslo locker room whenever, if you need a link just ask! I'd like to set some times up for games, like trivia and such, but we don't need those of course to get a game going. See you next season for the Season 85 Awards, and it'll be interesting to see what the future holds!
