"Nico Pearce's option with the Helsinki Titans has been declined."

Perhaps one of the best players in the league could leave for free, for nothing. Another active and important player could leave for free, for nothing.  Let's quickly look at the Erlantz Jokinen trade. We can see that Jokinen, S84 RIG 1st, and S84 HSK 4th was traded for S85 LDN 2nd, S85 CGY 2nd, and S86 CGY 1st.

Calgary receives:

Erlantz Jokinen

S84 RIG 1st

S84 HSK 4th

Helsinki receives:

S85 LDN 2nd

S85 CGY 2nd

S86 CGY 1st

Comparison

Pearce leaving could bring nothing.

Nezuko leaving could bring nothing.

Jokinen leaving brought back 2x 2nd round picks and a 1st round pick.

Despite publicly criticizing the management, Jokinen, by the looks of it, is worth more than Pearce and Nezuko together. Despite publicly criticizing the management, Jokinen, by the looks of it, is more of a team player than Pearce and Nezuko are together as Jokinen leaving brought back assets that could be used to bring in a replacement of some sorts. You can not say the same about Pearce and Nezuko as all they leave behind is nothing. All they bring back is nothing.

Now that we got the facts outs of the way, we can speculate, these are interesting moves. These are the type of plays you will see when the GM of a rival team plays in your team. It is naive to think that Pearce is not helping Moscow. Chaos and doubt are optimal environments for a GM trying to make moves. You need to appear as if you are not desperate or in a bad spot. Moscow has no cap space, but still needs to sign le Massif, a leading player for Moscow. Chaos and doubt benefit Moscow and also Helsinki. It is naive to think that Helsinki GM is not going to make a favorable deal for Moscow by taking some nice assets from Moscow to Helsinki, all just to  make room under the Moscow cap. In return, Nezuko joins Moscow for free. Pearce returns for one year deal = Blackmailing. When you look at the users in Moscow you see that Nezuko going there makes perfect sense.

Pearce will be traded closer to the trade deadline to give Moscow and Emeritus the last two runs at the cup. Once again a favorable deal will be made as Pearce will sign a one-year deal during this off-season, so we will hear "deadline rental" or something else to justify the move. The league leaders will close their eyes to this blatant violation of honest and fair competition. They are all going to be in Moscow together. So has been written. So shall happen.
