This is a rare non-player authored post. I haven’t done many of these before, in part because I feel that I have very little to say out of character, and additionally, speaking in character is a relatively easy enough way to churn out the TPE I need each and every week.

Saying that, I’ve been in the league now for more than 18 months, having seen Jan Hlozek’s career just finish, and the start of Bogatyrev’s. Through that time, the thought of becoming a GM, whether a full fledged general manager or an AGM, has run through my mind on more than one occasion.

However, I can confidently say that I certainly do not have what it takes to become a GM? Why?

1.      I can’t promise activity.

Having joined the league in January 2021 (IIRC), I was working in a job that had some remote working which, to all intents and purposes, facilitated my VHL activity. Sure, I need roughly one hour to complete all the point tasks I need to max earn for the week, but this job gave me the opportunity to engage in LRs and feel in touch with the team.

Then as Hlozek developed, I became a (shriek) welfare clicker. This was in part due to a change in job, change in country, and generally much greater pressures on my time. As this job wound down, due to certain issues I won’t get into here, I had time to become active once again, contributing in Moscow’s LR, and picking up my earning.

Now I’ve changed job again, and if I’m honest, I don’t know what this means for Boga’s potential to max earn, let alone my ability to manage a team should I be given the responsibility.

2.      Bad experience with STHS

I’ve GM’d in another sim league (that I won’t mention here) using STHS before. How did that go? I had the 2nd or 3rd best team when it came to overall attributes, but yet we finished the season with the 8th best record in a 10 team league. I already had my fill of Simon through that experience, and I’m not looking forward to doing it again.

3.      Investment

Do I want to become truly invested in a sim league team, to have to manage it. For example, I look at a GM like @Spartan . A man who got to four finals in a row and lost every single one of them. I don’t want to be like Spartan.

4.      Who am I?

No-one really knows. No-one outside of my teams cared who Hlozek was, so who am I to have a voice in getting people to be active?

So with those things in mind, this is a massive thanks to all the GMs who, in spite of the above, continue to toil and make this league what it is. I respect each and every one of you, and the community, as do I, truly appreciates all that you do, and the activity you bring that helps push this league forward.
