Game 164 Review:

Home: Prague Phantoms

Visitors: New York Americans

After a long flight to Europe for the New York Americans coming off tightly fought game a few days earlier against the Seattle Bears; where for the most part they played rope a dope allowing 38 shots but somehow scored two goals on four shots in the second and another in the third to steal the win before boarding the flight to Prague for tonight’s game.

First Period:

One would expect Prague Phantoms to come out firing and trying to jump on the tired New York Americans team but it would be New York that would jump out to an early lead on goal from Vinny Detroit as he would deflect shot from Alexandre Leduc past Clueless Wallob on what seemed to be the first shot to actually hit the net as both teams struggled to find the net in the first two and half minutes of play. The rest of the period was played with caution by both teams netminders with every shot being meet with stoppage of play; removing much of the flow and energy from the game. A penalty late in the period game by Deron Nesbitt at 17:39 for holding would give Prague a chance to draw even before end of the first period but they couldn`t even mustard a shot on net.

Second Period:

In the second with the late penalty kill in the first period; New York seemed to gain momentum and started taking the game to Prague but penalty kill shortly before the hallway mark of the second period would see another shift in momentum leading to the tying goal when Velociraptor Greg ripped into a shot that bounced off the end boards when Nico Pearce missed the net moments earlier. Shortly after the game was tied the game started getting a bit chippy with Velociraptor Greg throwing three massive bodychecks but that didn`t stop the determination of the New York Americans as they had Prague hemmed into their own end forcing Faith Hope Love to take a penalty. New York wasn`t able to score on the ensuing powerplay and allowed Prague to escape the second period tied at ones.

Third Period:

The third continued to show some mean-spirited situation when only 9 seconds into the third period Jason from Prague fired a harmless looking shot towards New York Americans netminder Augustus Kennedy and then simply decided to rough up the tender for what looked like no reason then maybe frustration. He would be a marked man by the Americans and after a scoring chance at Augustus Kennedy 4:10 of the third period; Jason would fight Napoleon Dynamite in a very lopsided tilt causing a general fight with most confusing penalty being handed out to Nikolas Kauppi of Prague for Goalie Interference when he prevented Kennedy and Wallob from getting together during the ruckus. New York defenders also went to work like warriors in one side sword fight with B-NYA D1 receiving a double minor for high-sticking as he tried to highlander some with two handed chop to the head and neck area. While his partner in crime B-NYA D2 received two minutes for cross check to the back of the head of B-PRG D1; who somehow managed to get called for roughing during the general fight. The game would calm down after the general fight with neither team able to score the winning goal mean the referees faced an even longer night as the teams headed for overtime.

Overtime:

Luckily for the referees the game would be decided quickly as the tired looking New York Americans would come out firing with three shots in the first two minutes of overtime having Prague on the ropes. Minutes later Alexandre Leduc would win the offensive face-off over to Napoleon Dynamite; who would circle the net in what seemed like slow motion as close to five second would pass by before the American player would shoot the puck past Clueless Wallob for the winning goal.

Luckily for New York their next game would still see them in Europe to play HC Davos; while Prague Phantoms would jump the long flight to Calgary in Canada.
