The rivalry between Helsinki and Davos has been heated for a while and it just got hotter with Helsinki making some moves to strengthen their team.  As a member of the best team in the league, HC Davos, this posturing by Helsinki has gotten my attention, thus the article.

Just twenty three games into the season, Helsinki finds itself on top of the European Conference.  Recent pick ups of Baxter Arcanum, @ctots, and Ryui Sakamoto, @der meister, has pretty much solidified an already solid defensive core.  Helsinki GM, @Rayzor_7, is definitely making a run for the cup with these moves, given that Helsinki, although winning most of their games, has let quite a few pucks into the net.  Rayzor must see this as a situation that needed changing and relying on his forwards to score more goals than the opponents each game.

When you dissect the Helsinki scoring, it looks weary for the opponents.  Even though it’s early in the season, Helsinki has already established a strong footing in the points category.  Nils Godlander, @Moon, leads the team in points and the league in goals scored.  Matty Fire, @MattyFired, is an evenly paced contributor, who consistently puts up amazing numbers.  And then there is Mo Probert, @Yahtzee, who’s namesake tells it all, is in the top ten in points, and dominates the defensive stats.  Probert’s bone crushing hits put him in the penalty box a lot, yet he still manages to be a point leader.

I could go on and on about the strength of Helsinki and their posturing for winning a cup, but why give them any more credit!  Its time to trash them and keep this rivalry alive and kicking.  As Thunder’s defensive partner @Ahma prefers the Titans be called by their true identity, Helstinky, every match between Davos and Helstinky has become a playoff match; a competitive duel that brings satisfaction only to the winners and sadness to the losers.

There is an upcoming game between the true best team in the league, HC Davos, and the pretending team Helsinki.  If Davos wins game 201, then Davos will take a series lead of 3-1 for the season.  If Davos should be unlucky and lose this game, then the rivalry will be a dead heat, with two teams matched up for the next battle.

Rayzor may have placed all his eggs in one basket for the cup, Davos GM Alex, has been nothing but amazing with his roster moves and game preparation every season.  Like Rayzor, Alex builds a solid team with players who bring out the best in their teammates.  Alex relies upon exciting goal scoring forwards with a solid defense and a net minder who will likely be the Christian Stolzchweiger recipient.  Lachlan Summers is just beginning to show his dominance in goal and as the season progresses and his confidence in net rises, so will all his stats.

So what’s next for the rivalry?  Is the game today going to quell some of the chatter and put some freshly deserved relaxation into Davos, or is Helsinki going to cause teeth to clench whenever the name is brought up?  Only Simon knows.  Stay tuned…
