Reign end Wolves' winning streak at five

When the Riga Reign and Vancouver Wolves met in Game 284, the Wolves were riding a five-game winning streak, including a recent victory over the Reign. Both teams came into the season with higher expectations than what we have seen so far, but Vancouver has made recent adjustments that have helped them gain some ground back in the standings. It was Riga who reigned supreme today, snapping the Wolves' winning streak.

It was a physical, but relatively clean game from both sides. Riga had 20 hits at the end of the day, while Vancouver had 24. Riga committed just one penalty, while Vancouver committed four, and that is where the Reign were able to take advantage. Riga struck first on a power play goal from Daniel Clarke. Pierre Emil Bouchard, who had committed that penalty, made up for it with his 12th goal of the season in the second period. The Reign would respond within a minute, however, and it would be 2-1 going into the third period. Riga scored another power play goal 15 seconds into the third and then made it 4-1, before Vancouver score another. The final score would be 4-2, with goals by four different players for the Reign. Both of the starting goalies have been struggling this season, but Riga's Henry Tucker Jr came through big for his team, making 42 saves on 44 shots on goal. Vancouver's Brandt Fuhr let in the four goals on 50 shots again, so while it wasn't a terrible game for him, he was definitely outclassed tonight.

Game 273:

Warsaw and Malmo faced off today in what began as a defensive battle. In the first period, there was only one goal scored thanks to Warsaw's Zach Kisslinger II.  Warsaw held that 1-0 lead, but was soon able to break through the tough Malmo defenses and put on a fireworks show in the second period.  In the second, Warsaw scored three unanswered goals to push their lead to 4-0 and all but salt this game away.  Malmo managed to score one late goal in the second and find the net again in the third, but the onslaught from Warsaw was too much.  The Predators win this one 4-2.

Game 277:

Calgary_Emoti.png Calgary Wranglers vs. Los Angeles Stars LAEmoti.png

In this matchup, Calgary raced out to an early first period lead over Los Angeles and never looked back. Just five minutes into the game, AirRig GoodBrandSun lit the siren which gave the Wranglers a 1-0 lead.  The two teams sparred back and forth for much of the rest of the opening period, but AirRig GoodBrandSun again found the back of the net with just a few minutes left in the first to push Calgary's lead to 2-0. As if two wasn't enough, AirRig GoodBrandSun made it a hatty with a goal in the second period, which gave Calgary a 3-0 lead and caused all the Los Angeles fans to start heading towards the exits.  The Stars scored one garbage time goal late in the third, but this was never really in doubt. Calgary wins 3-1.
