So, lets do another redraft! This time it’s the season 79 redraft. I heard you guys from the last redraft, but I think I will stick to retired draft classes just to see how players do with all seasons under their belt. In this redraft I have ranked all the players that had played at least one season played in the VHL, as I can’t rank someone for a VHL draft if they do not play. In this case we have 25 players that have played in the VHL from the season 79 draft class. With that being said I wanted to make a special mention to Orion D H Chiester IX who played in the VHLM and VHLE for his entire career. Despite having a 510 TPE, his stats fooled me, I wrote about him because I thought I was looking at his VHL statistics. With that being said, I do not really look at TPE in these rankings, rather I look at points, goals, hits, shots blocked, etc. Anyways, lets get right into my picks:

25. X Man

X Man was drafted 33rdoverall in the VHL draft, although he only played 1 season in the VHL, his totals are 47 hits, 59 blocked shots and 15 points in 72 games.

24. Alex Parise

Parise was drafted 21stoverall, also only played one season in the VHL, but in the 62 games he played in, he had a 0.905 save percentage, 3.96 goals against average, and 13 wins.

23. Connor Wilson

Wilson was drafted 35thoverall and played only one season in the VHL, but collecting 41 points, 86 hits and 40 blocked shots in the 72 games.

22. Pistol Pete

Pete, drafted 32ndoverall, played 2 seasons in the VHL and had 70 points, 186 hits and 86 shots blocked in the 139 games he’s played in.

21. Zdeno Chara

Chara was drafted 20thoverall and played in 2 seasons where he put up 281 shots blocked and 90 points in the 144 total played games. A decent 2-way defender that gave Moscow a depth piece in the season 82 cup run. (Though they lost)

20. Rhys Trenton

Trenton was drafted 17thoverall playing in 3 seasons where he collected 504 hits, 489 blocked shots and 145 points in the 216 games. This was amazing for a depth piece defenceman, and the 74 points in his first season was just a bonus on top of that.

19. Miroslav Tsarov

Tsarov drafted 16thoverall played 4 seasons in the VHL, and he is another defenceman to collect 71 points in his rookie season, even toping it of with 66 points in his second season. Tsarov eventually became more defensive in the next 2 seasons and in total collecting 217 points, 682 hits, and 339 blocked shots in 288 games.

18. Jakub Brozik

Brozik was drafted 18thoverall and played in 5 VHL seasons putting up 228 points and 325 hits in 360 games.

17. Deagun Rust

This might be a little controversial, but Rust was drafted 23rdoverall and didn’t put up great numbers 63 points, and 188 blocked shots in 288 games. But what he mastered was the hitting category, putting up a total of 1015 hits in those 288 games making him one of the best gritty players in the league at the time.

16. John Baard

Baard was drafted 19th overall, and was a good offensive player, collecting 307 points in 360 games aswell picking up 525 hits in those games.

15. Em Em Flex

Okay Flex was only a player in 3 seasons, but with the 0.921 save percentage, and only a 2.84 goals against average, and 110 wins in only 176 games, that is and amazing accomplishment. It is also important to mention that Flex brought the Bears to a cup win back in season 83. Flex was drafted 11thoverall.

14. Bob Beach

One of the biggest jumps on this list is Beach as he was drafted 30thoverall, but as a defenseman put up 142 points, 692 hits and 641 blocked shots in his 287 games that he played in. Beach is a very solid defensive player.

13. Omi Aberg

Aberg was drafted 12thoverall collecting 401 points and 275 hits in his 432 game career. Aberg was a very consistent player only having 2 off seasons. His final season, and his second season in Warsaw. The rest of the seasons saw him put up a point a game or more. Also being a good depth piece for Warsaw’s cup win in season 84.

12. Donny Carter

Carter was drafted 22ndoverall (another big jump) to be a winger that put up 343 points, 481 hits, and 232 blocked shots in his 432 career games. He also played as a big role in his final season helping Vancouver win the season 86 cup.

11. Sunrise van de Schubbekuteveen

That’s a mouth full… Sunrise was drafted 14thoverall collecting 355 points and 509 hits in his 431 game career in the VHL. His most notable season was in his second season where he collected 51 goals and 98 points in that 72 game season.

10. Sigard Petrenko

Finally, the top 10, starting with Petrenko was drafted 7thoverall and collected 385 points and 214 shots blocked in 432 games, but like some other players on this list, he was a full-time gritty player in the league. He ended up collecting 1369 (nice) hits in his 432 career games making him one of the best 2-way players form this draft class.

9. Tyler Reinhart

Tyler was drafted 2ndoverall, although this is a huge drop, he played his part well, especially in Vancouver. Tyler was a player that collected 514 points, and 815 hits in his 504 games played. These are crazy point totals, but only seemingly lasting in Vancouver as once he left the Wolves every statistic of his plummeted. But nothing can take away from his 63 goals, 126 point season in season 80. He was also one of the Wolves main pieces in winning the season 80, 81, and 82 cups. Yes, he is an amazing player with amazing totals, but I question why the totals only stay this high when he was apart of the beast Vancouver was in this time.

8. AJ Williams

William was drafted 5thoverall collecting 484 points, 359 hits and 218 blocked shots in only 432 games. His consistency to get near a point a game or more was impressive overall. The only poor season he had was back in his rookie season where he put up only 61 points, but his best season showed him collecting 106 points and 52 goals in season 83. He was also always a main playoff contributor especially when he helped the Bears go to the final twice, and one of those times even wining it with the Bears.

7. Tyler Mourning

Mourning played 8 VHL seasons, being drafted 10th overall and collecting 568 points in 576 games. Even though those numbers are good on their own, he was also one of the grittiest players back in his time collecting 2038 hits in his career making him the best 2 way forward in this draft class. An outlying season he had was his 59 goals and 129 point season back in season 82. This lucky man also collected the Continental Cup back in his rookie season.

6. Poopy Peepants

Peepants was drafted 4thoverall, and this defense put up decent points, 424 points in 576 games, but his real feature was his ability to hit and block shots. 1499 hits and 1058 blocked shots during his VHL tenure. These numbers combined with his points makes him one of the better 2 way defensemen in the draft class. Although his game focused more on his defensive aspect.

5. Jonathan Ori

Ori was drafted 8thoverall and had a respectable run after the first couple of seasons. In 576 games played Ori had collected 570 points, and 805 hits. The near point a game pace was only made impossible by his first 2 seasons in the VHL where he put up 74 points in 144 games. However, his abilities changed after this, and he was over a point a game player after these seasons. It was also notable that he helped the Bears go to the finals in Season 84, but unfortunately lost in that final.

4. Baby Bob

The next big jumper is Bob as he was drafted 9thoverall in the VHL draft and had been amazing since he joined the league. With only one season under a point a game… that’s 71 points in 72 games… he was anything but a disappointment. With 559 points, 223 shots blocked, and 553 hits in 432 games he can be easily higher on this list, but some close top talent is still to come. His outlying season was his final season where he collected 64 goals, 117 points and 129 hits that season.

3. Erlantz Jokinen

Jokinen was drafted 6thoverall and had been an absolute beast of a defender. He collected 537 points in his 574 games, but also in those games put up 978 hits and 1210 shot blocks. These totals are enough to say he was an amazing offensive defenseman, and an amazing defensive defenseman. Although those hit totals, I would like to see higher for defensive players. But regardless, the shots blocked are some of the bests we have seen ion this draft class, you need to account for that. Jokinen also helped Prague go to the finals, but lost it in his last season.

2. Papa Emeritus

Papa, the 1stoverall pick from this draft class dropped a spot. Papa was one of the best goaltenders in the league up until his retirement, and with his 0.924 save percentage, 2.65 goals against average, and his 262 wins in his 433 games career, this goaltender needs to be considered one of the best the league has seen. Although he has not been the most consistent player to tend the goal, he still had some amazing runs, such as his season 84 stats where he put up a 0.939 save percentage, 1.97 goals against average and 48 wins in 65 games. Although Papa has been to the finals 3 consecutive times, he was beaten by Vancouver in each of those finals. Papa will go down as a Moscow legend.

1. Jerome Reinhart

Jerome was drafted 3rdoverall, but I have him first after his career, why? Jerome was drafted as a forward and played in Vancouver collecting multiple 100 point seasons to later switch to defence once he went to New York. Regardless of this fact Jerome put up 784 points in 578 games, as well, 919 hits and 866 blocked shots in those games. Yes, most of his blocked shots came from his defensive tenure, but his hits were fairly consistent, in fact, he hit more as a forward. Jerome had four 100 point seasons and a 99 point season. One of the 100 point seasons was done as a defence, as well as his 99 point season. That alone is a crazy stat, but he also recorded 141 points and 59 goals in a season (that’s nearly 2 points a game). Jerome also had a season where he put up 61 goals and 141 points… Just another amazing stat. This is already the best player on this list, but he tops it off with 3 consecutive Continental Cup wins. Now I can hear you complaining, what’s the difference between Jerome Reinhart on Vancouver and Tyler Reinhart on Vancouver? Its simple, once Tyler left Vancouver he struggled, but once Jerome left, he switched to defence and put up another 100 point season, and still consistently collected points, and increased his defensive game as well. Oh yeah, and in season 81 Jerome put up 52 points and 28 goals in only 18 playoff games.

Although these are my rankings, they might still be different depending on the person ranking them, so I want to ask you, what do you think of these rankings? What might you change? Where would you put these players?

Also, I my plan is to make redrafts of retired draft classes to see where they rank after a career, is there any currently retired draft classes you want to see?

Review:

I always like re-draft topics and other members opinion on them. Great list with breakdown of why you think the players should have gone in that position (now after 9seasons) For me I would still have Papa #1 and Jerome #2. Goalies to me are usually the #1 player that can make or break a team. It was a great article to read, the only thing I would add is maybe a picture and also maybe tag the members who created those players. I know most like to see these kinds of things. 9/10!
