Riggsy 72
It's almost been a whole season since the VHL Season 40 Entry Draft had taken place on September 22, 2014. Of the first five picks, only 2 teams held the selections. The first two picks were property of the Cologne Express and the last three picks of the Top 5 were property of the Toronto Legion, two up and coming rebuilding teams. Let's check in on the Top 3 draftees in this edition and see how their doing in the VHL right now. 1) Thomas O'Malley Team: Cologne Express Position: Center Jersey Number: 14 Height: 6'2" Weight: 200 lbs Birthplace: Boston Scouting Report: Thomas O'Malley is a center that is born to score. A very fast player, on any other player, his speed would be his best attribute, but it's not. He is up there for fastest player in the VHL, and his puck handling is elite enough to stay up there with him. Of course, as a center, he can win faceoffs and pass the puck at a superb level. His shot is his best attribute and his two-way play is constantly improving day to day. 2) Mason Kahne Richardson Team: Cologne Express Position: Defense Jersey Number: 15 Height (inches): 6'4 Weight (lbs.): 216 lbs. Birthplace: Riverside, California, USA Scouting Report: Mason Kahne Richardson is a very good offensive minded defenseman. He is blessed with excellent hockey sense, confidence and coolness. Everything looks so easy and natural when Richardson has the puck under control in the offensive zone. He is a true power specialist that usually gets the puck on net and also delivers very good passes. Furthermore, he is mobile and a capable skater with good agility and technical skills. His defensive IQ is the best part of his game according to many scouts and it is spot on. Richardson is a leader on and off the ice for the Cologne Express. 3) Tyler Cote Team: Toronto Legion Position: Center Jersey Number: 19 Height (inches): 74 Weight (lbs.): 208 Birthplace: Toronto, Ontario, Canada Scouting Report: Tyler Cote, a pure center, excels in all three zones, and has shown dominance in all areas through his career in the VHLM. His high-end playmaking ability and vision compliment his natural abilities as a center, but he has demonstrated, especially this season, a keen ability to put the puck in the net. To put it lightly Cote is as smart as they come in this year’s draft. Pick whatever key phrase you like " Slows the game down" "buys himself time" He is a pleasure to watch and his goal scoring ability is a treat for all to see. Cote has good size for a center and the skating ability to translate smoothly to a higher level. He needs to work on his faceoffs, but for many centers breaking into the VHL, this is something they need to fix. Moderator frescoelmo 1,282 Posted November 9, 2014 Moderator Share Posted November 9, 2014 (edited) Content: 2/3 - A fun little article highlighting the top three picks in this past year's VHL Entry Draft, and where they currently are in their careers. There was a lot of potential in this, however I thought it was a little raw. It sounded like you repeated the same things about all three players. A quick summary and/or conclusion would have been a great touch. This was very close to the required minimum as well, therefore I don't think it warrants a full score. ~470. Grammar: 2/2 - Pretty good, some confusing ones in there is a center that is born to score = is a center that was born to score (passive) offensive minded = offensive-minded (marginal) A very fast player, on any other player, his speed would be his best attribute, but it's not. (nothing really wrong, just very confusing) Pick whatever key phrase you like " Slows the game down" "buys himself time" = Pick whatever key phrase you like, "slows the game down" or "buys himself time". (a few marginal ones in there) Appearance: 1/1 - Nice color, make sure your picture works next time! It doesn't seem to be working for me. 5/6 Edited November 9, 2014 by frescoelmo Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/14085-claimedvhl-s40-draft-top-3-picks-review-56-final/#findComment-147601 Share on other sites
Senior Admin Will 4,662 Posted November 9, 2014 Senior Admin Share Posted November 9, 2014 Content: 2.5/3 You did a nice job looking into the players and such, but definitely needed some kind of conclusion to end it off. Even if it was just a one-liner, simply ending it with Cote's paragraph makes me sad inside. Grammar: 1.75/2 Fresco found them all, must proofread! Appearance: 1/1 Looks good but, yeah, check the link on your picture. Overall: 5.25/6 FINAL: 5/6 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/14085-claimedvhl-s40-draft-top-3-picks-review-56-final/#findComment-147670 Share on other sites
